  1. The cheap paint apps have actually been more of an issue for me lately than the reduced articulation. Now that they almost never use washes or highlights on our figures anymore we sometimes get very flat or cartoon-y looking figures. The original costume (brown and yellow) Daredevil figure is a prime example -- great sculpt, full articulation, but without any washes used to provide any shading the sculpt comes off looking a bit too flat, and the yellow is too bright. His face also has the same issue. Maestro from this year has the same problem -- lacking any sort of shading or highlighting effect from the paint apps, his beard looks rather one-dimensional and rather cartoon-ish.

I agree. The good figures, like Executioner really suffer from no detailing. A low-light wash in Enchantress' hair or Executioner's armor or face (with great sculpting) would go a really long way.

  2. That's some #$##, norin. I begged various TRU employees last week to break street date for me to no avail. Also, no one would "hold" one under a counter for me. Though one admitted that they would hold one for a "day" so I guess if I went yesterday, I could had one put aside but I was sick of going there.

Chances are you would have been disappointed by the eyeball paint apps even if you got one in person.

Also, my store did not have them on shelves either, but smooshed in a shopping cart of Thor 3 stuff that someone had to locate in the stock room.

  3. I picked up my second Spidey/Shocker set at Target, now that they are on clearance.

While there, I made the mistake of looking at the 6" figures. A classic Beetle, with articulated wings, and Captain Universe (with alternate heads). *sigh* What a mistake.

I miss the days when we actually had a quality 3.75" line so damn much.

I hear you. Legends has been killing it with character selection, volume, accessories, and detail. Its pretty disgusting to think how they could be doing the same with 4" at a higher price point but instead chose to reduce all those things instead.

Maybe one day some competent figure maker like BOSS FIGHT will get to do Marvel Universe over again in 4" and we'll get all those things and more.

I got the 2-pk too. The thick lines on the figures and no-articulation on Shocker turn me off but they're not too bad at this discount.

  4. Just saw a packaged Korg on Ebay so it can't be much longer till the pre-orders hit. The back of the card says that Ultron is in this wave; is that true or is he pushed back?

I wouldn't expect Ultron for a while. (Was it gold?) Seems the cards got printed back when there was a different expectation of waves breakdown and then figures go re-arranged. Kinda how Northstar and Collosonaught were pictured last wave but didn't appear till now.

  5. I also hope F4 flops and Fox gives up. I always enjoyed A:EMH when the Avengers would call FF for help and they'd be off exploring except for Ben.

However I'm probably going to see Deadpool in the theatres, so there's that.

As far as merch, I get it. Marvel has hand and they're using it. I don't blame them. I grew up with X-Men in the Outback and Inferno and stuff. Those things are important to me. I wish there were more figures, but I'm okay with the slow trickle.

  6.

I still haven't managed to score Bishop and Black Cat off of hts. :(

On the positive side, I was able to order both version of Sandman and Beast. Which, really, is probably more important as a collector, since they're less likely to repack the "variant" versions of Sandman and Beast.

They're back up for pre-order on HTS again this morning as of 9:00 AM EST

HTS code: "Spring15" should currently be active.
