    2008 Elections

Unwinnable? No war is unwinnable. We've always got more bombs and bullets than they have center masses to absorb them with. No, this one is just extremely challenging because of kiddy glove handling of the war and the frequent culture clashes that are involved with this whole mess. That's all I'll say about that. Just to clarify - I'm not against your point here, DP - just sayin' is all. ; ) Tom Well... I see your point, but there are several factors at work here. First of all, it's not a traditional war anymore. In a way, Bush was right - the "war" was won. At this point it's an insurgency against an occupying force. It doesn't necessarily depend on having more bombs and bullets anymore. Secondly, the American people, knowing this, have more or less lost the will to fight. I don't think that's true of Afghanistan however, where the link between bin Laden and the Taliban was and still is obvious to all (except Canadians, unfortunately, but a lot of the Canadian public is out to lunch when it comes to these matters I'm afraid). At any rate we're looking at a larger struggle against militant fundamental Islamists (not Islam - I'm stressing the fundamental part here), which I don't believe is unwinnable. I do believe that Iraq will not be "won" through a decisive military victory... Does that make sense? I'm not sure I'm writing properly exactly what I'm thinking here...

You don't seem to understand either. You praise Bush for the US' good economy the first couple years - guess sitting presidents also have to take the previous ones' gains. Fact is, 9/11 happened on his watch. The (unwinnable) war in Iraq was started by him. Now the economy is sinking. He has to be held responsible for these. And as far as the predictable Lewinsky remark goes, I don't think I have to mention Bush's reputation for taking vacations, do I? Let's not pretend he doesn't "waste time", as you put it. To say that Clinton is "soley" responsible for 9/11 is simply retarded - there's really no polite way to say this.

Better a government than a corporation where profit is the only bottom line. I certainly believe in capitalism but not when it comes to people's lives. Call me a socialist if you want, but would you want private companies taking care of, say, national defense? It's not good for everything. That's a load of crap, Bill Clinton didn't start anything. All that originates way, way back, from the beginnings of Wahhabism in the 18th Centure, up to Western (and in particular US) support of Israel, to the stationing of foreign troops on holy Saudi Arabian soil, etc... Blaming it on Bill Clinton is idiotic, though blaming the Iraq War on Bush isn't. Even if they had found WMD's (we're talking chemical weapons here, not a nuclear arsenal, which no one thought they had), Iraq posed no immediate threat and war was not warranted. Bush was the president, not Rumsfeld. The decision, and therefore the fault, lies with him. You don't have your facts right and are just repeating dumbed-down rhetoric.

We ALL Have To Eat, So Why Not Eat Good For Cheap!!!

That is true. ##1# If you mince just a 1/4 of a fresh green or red pepper, then add it while you simmer the garlic in olive oil before anything else, it TOTALLY changes the taste to a FRESH PEPPER sauce. @ohyeah@ This is great with fresh mushrooms that you add later. I just fried up some yellow peppers yesterday, along with some sliced portobello mushrooms. I added them to a pizza (one of those ready made crusts you can get for real cheap) along with shredded mozzarella, kalamata olives, and a little feta cheese sprinkled on top, as well as a little bit of chopped garlic, pepper and oregano. My god, it was delicious. The gf said it was the best tasting pizza she'd ever had (and best looking too).

Frying red peppers for a while and adding it to a tomato sauce gives it a really nice sweetness and it tastes great with any pasta.

I've got to wonder why so many people are afraid of this. Free health care? So what? Seriously, Canada could be construed as a "socialist democracy" by some of you and it's almost identical to the US in almost every respect. Sure, if it's going to cause higher taxes that would suck, but considering how much the war in Iraq is costing the taxpayers I imagine something could be worked out! ;)

    This is not Art

I'm going to start off with a bit of controversy and say, yes, that is art. Think of it as a "depiction" - if it was an oil painting of the same subject, no one would deny that it's art, but a painting is, essentially a depiction. When you set up a real event in a certain way, it is also a depiction, a work of art in the same way that the painting is. HOWEVER, it is also disgusting and deplorable, not to mention incredibly cruel, and should not be allowed in any even remotely civilized country. The artist should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, if it applies in this country. If not it's still morally reprehensible. This isn't about censorship - it's about cruelty. Tom, that was a puppy on that video, for f&^k's sake. Shooting a rabid or vicious wild dog is one thing. This wasn't AS cruel as what this other guy did, but it's still disgusting behaviour.
