Wow, I had a ton of emails about my first new 09 Venom based on the Gargan scorpion-tail body and a lot of them requested the long-jawed comic style with slobber. So here he is! The lower jaw and upper mouth have been completely resculpted with opaque teeth from flosspiks. The tongue is magnetically attached and can be removed, covered with an green tinted epoxy slime that's also dripping from his jaw. To give him turning biceps I used the discs in a Sigma 6 Heavy Duty, shaved them down, and dremelled out the plug hole in the bicep. He also has bendy back tendrils made with my old plasti-dip guide directions! Top it off with the dark-blue inner shadow that's given to him in the comics an you have a really nasty Venom to battle your Spiderman figures! More pics here!!----> Comic-style Venom -------------------------------------------------------------- "Wade Wilson wasn't a new recruit for the Joes. He wasn't an enemy either. One day he just walked right into a battle between Gung Ho's team and Destro, immediately hitting on the Baroness. After being shot multiple times by Iron Grenadiers, the masked mercenary shouted a few choice words and 'hadokened' a grenade into a HISS Tank's engine compartment causing a massive explosion. Snake Eyes was wary when Deadpool approached the Joes and met him with sword drawn. That sword was met with the hum of a replica Light Saber blade and a joke about Lady Jay's cleavage leaving Snake Eyes speechless.. which was the target of Deadpool's next comment. Since then he's tangled with the Joes and Cobra in what we can only guess is his of insane version of fun." Similar to my first Wolvie Origins Comic Deadpool, this one is detailed to reflect his appearance in issue #16 of Deadpool. The seams on the head were sanded down and a larger 'surprised' eye was sculpted in. I removed the upper half of his modern weabgear and sculpted the cross-chest version. Tossed the flimsy swords and replaced them with stronger Storm Shadow ones, added a boot knife, gave him a magnetic com-set modded from the Resolute Destro one, removable sheepherder cloak...and of course, THE SHEEP CANNON! Yes folks, it's a cannon disguised as a sheep. You have to read the issue, heh. It's made from a resculpted pvc sheep with its back drilled down, parts from an Armored Core, Spawn Interlink, Transformers, Halo, Sigam 6, and other action figure weaponry combined there. You just can't beat a deadly robot sheep for the ultimate weapon of destruction. More pics here!----> Deadpool with SHEEP CANNON!

If you have Iron Man you have to have War Machine, and the 3 3/4" inch Marvel Universe line needed one! He's made from the MU stealth Iron Man, GI Joe Destro lower arms, and an assortment of fodder parts that make up his armor. EVA Halo shoulderpads, Deadpool's chest strap/circle, Transformers Brawl cannon, and a chaingun from Marauder Gun-Runners. I think the belt was made from a DC Universe Cyborg figure.War Machine's arm cannons came from Microman fodder parts as well. Combined with an all metallic paint job and he's ready to wage war! More pics here!---> Marvel Universe War Machine ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's an updated version of Gambit that fits into the 3 3/4" inch Marvel Universe line. He's basically a Wolverine Origins Gambit with the coat from a DC Infinite Heroes Commissioner Gordon and collar from the DCIH Manhunter because the original figure was missing that. His hands were modded to turn at the wrists and I created a stronger staff and two scaled playing cards for him to throw. More pics here!---> Marvel Universe Gambit ---------------------------------------------------------------------- "Wade Wilson wasn't a new recruit for the Joes. He wasn't an enemy either. The seams on the head were sanded down and a larger 'surprised' eye was sculpted in. I removed the upper half of his modern weabgear and replaced it with the bandoleer from the DVD pack Snake Eyes, drilling a hole in the back so you could plug in the sword sheathes he came with. Tossed the flimsy swords and replaced them with stronger Storm Shadow ones. The belt buckle was also resculpted and he was given an arsenal of weapons from Marauder Gun-Runners so he can take on an army! Black patches were added on his feet and hands along with muscle shading for a Deadpool that can hold up against its Marvel Legends counterpart. More pics here!---> Marvel Universe Deadpool

For those of you who picked up the ML Nemesis series you may of noticed he's no longer clear, instead having an icky matte yellow paint app. There is a way to return him to his normal clear orange/yellow goodness but it'll take some work. First take him apart. Snag some Bounty or WalMart brand Oasis towels as these don't leave particles behind like Brawny or some of the cheaper ones. Make sure you're out doors because Dampen the towel with Walmart or Ace's brand of Acetone (I use Kleen-strip) and begin to wipe off the nasty yellow paint on his arms and legs. You don't have to be super careful on these parts because the Acetone won't eat away at that plastic very quickly like it will hard plastics parts. Use Q-tips if you have trouble getting any of the red bubble apps out of crevices. You're going to go through a lot of paper towels and Acetone with this guy, probably needing to go over him twice. The shoulderpads are very Acetone resistant and easy to clean off. But the chest/waist IS NOT! You have to be very careful about how much acetone you put on the paper towel because too much and it'll begin to melt the plastic, the paper towel sticking. Fortunately you can go back over any 'oops' spots with more acetone and remove that. Avoid hitting the already clear dome if you can. Now use Tamiya clear red to line-in all his armor panels, muscle sections, anywhere there's an indention. Get underneath his chest piece as well. Paint the little red bubbles however you wish. I only paint them on the front and back of the figure and towards the center of each part like in this image here: Holocaust/Nemesis After that dries paint the entire figure with a coat of Tamiya clear yellow and you will see him start to instantly turn clear as you do! Make sure to get underneath his shoulderpads to make them clear as well. If you want brighter eyes on the skeleton, paint them silver and when the dome is closed they'll be a much brighter yellow, almost glowing looking. Now you have a Nemesis that resembles the older 5" 'Dark Nemesis' made by Toybiz that was all clear looking. I'll probably go back over the bubbles to darken some up for variety but he's basically done. Now, are we clear on how to do that? Good!

I started collecting parts for this Blackheart back in 07 when the TMNT animated movie came out. There was a 2-pack set Leo vs a 'Stone General Gato' who had the perfect spine-like mane. After keeping the mane in a drawer of parts for 2 years the body I needed was produced, that of the Gargan Venom with tail. The face from an original ML Blackheart was mounted on to a ball joint that allows him to look in all directions without the mane moving too. The pinky fingers were removed, bicep-swivels added, and the feet from a Resident Evil Verdugo were spliced on. A Spawn Gravedigger demon provided the perfect segmented-looking bendy tail for Blackheart too. Blackheart's paint job consists of drybrushing/airbrushing three shades of blue and the application of a special reflective-iridescent paint to the center of his chest and surrounding areas. This gives it a completely pure white 'glow' even in low light like the character has on screen when standing still. You may notice he's missing his green/red demons but I'm working on them as we speak and should be getting them cast first so he'll have multiples to toss around. When the new Spiderman series Venom hit, people were less than thrilled. Yeah the scorpion tail was removable but he still had some oddities about him like the pupils, and no bicep swivels. Well all that's been fixed! His head was taken apart by heating it and I carved out the inside a bit, adding a hinge so it can open and close like the Marvel Icons one. Venom also has sculpted in eyes/back, and a whole new set of teeth individually set in to gums made from Aves Fixit. I used Son of Hulk inner elbow discs to create swivel-biceps for him and expanded the area around the hips so his legs could move better. Honestly the hips are fine even tho there's no ball-joint there. They move just like regular figure hips somehow and look decent so I wouldn't mind seeing these on more figures if they had to do away with the ball joint. A complete repaint including the most detailed Venom eyes I've ever done, 2-foot wire webline made from coated craft wire, and you have a brand new Venom sure to scare the heck outta his webslinging foe! More pics here!---> Custom Marvel Legends Venom Hope you enjoy!

Just picked up one of the AFD's from Action Figure Displays.com and I'm sold. Snagged the Cityscape for my superhero background and it works just as I had hoped. Looks like a real city rooftop with all the detail they put in to it. They're not cheap cardboard displays either, you can't bend them or anything, they're some sort of composite backing and freaking sturdy. I think the coolest thing is you get a floor with them while all the other displays I see are just a background. Detailed as hell too. I plan on picking up the space ones and adding LEDs behind the board, hoses/rails/etc for a 3D look. As of right now they have 15 different types with more on the way. Scaled for Joe-sized to Marvel Legends size figs currently. I hope they do some Transformers/Halo ones soon!

This Sabertooth is part of my personal collection and was made from the older rubber-faced classics Venom body, DC Universe Demon head for a true to form 'snarling' face, Demon hands, then carved down the pointy toes. I also took the time and sanded his ENTIRE body, resculpting parts espcially the forearms. I see a lot of customs using this Venom body but the sculpt is just too pitted/oozy for most characters and those bulbous forarems are just sad. Remember, you need to put that extra effort in to have people seperate your work from a quick repaint and a well executed custom. The mane, hair, and elbow fins were sculpted with Aves apoxie sculpt. He has the same sprite-hairstyle as Gambit too since it was such a big hit with fans last time around and now they match! Looks just like the SOTA hairstyle sculpt. I forgot how much I hate sculpting, yeesh. That mane was insane to sculpt each individual strand and the hair was just as bad, having to roll out each individual one. But in the end it was worth it, having a truly scary looking Sabertooth to pit against Gambit! More pics, click here!!---> http://www.angelfire.com/mech/jinsaotome/J...Sabertooth.html

Thanks guys! I'll be doing some more alternate deadpools soon.
-
This is my own design for Deadpool's suit. A while back I was toying around with doing Deadpools in different eras like they do with Spawn. You know, Pirate Deadpool, Viking Deadpool, etc, heh. This was just the 'alternate universe' suit design I came up with. The collar, straps, and most of the body work are Apoxie sculpt on a Hasbro ML Cyclops body, Moon Knight head, Joker Goon gloves, and Ninja Wolverine lower legs. I came up with some hanging pouches for him instead of the usual beltpack and made sure to give him his trademark beltbuckle. Gambit returns and this time in the Marvel vs Capcom 2 style like the ingame sprite. I made sure to style him from the sprite and not the artwork, giving him a lighter colored jacket and the spikey hair that flips over to one side. The body and hands are from the Target Red Hulk wave Union Jack, head is a DC Universe Superman Blue, lower legs and collar piece from the original ML Gambit, and the coat is from the Nick Fury Ult Cap 2-pack. The hair was sculpted by hand from Fixit Sculpt and took quite a while to do each individual piece. The kenetic cards he's holding were made from styrene strips and clear blister figure package. Now I won't be selling this Gambit, he's going in my personal collection to help round out the Marvel side of my Marvel vs Capcom 2 customs. More Pics!-----> http://www.angelfire.com/mech/jinsaotome/J...GambitMvC2.html Up on deviantArt I was privy to a few comic panels of the new 'What If' comic coming out on Dec 31st. It's What if Dr Doom kept the Beyonder's powers? The panels show Doom replicating himself and flying through space to attack some cosmic beings and blew me away! Right then I knew I just had to make that particular version of Doom. He was made from a Stealth Strike Iron Man body, FF Cosmic Doom head/cape (yes it's an incredibly hard figure to find but check your Ross/TJ Max) and some Modeling Support Goods bolt-ish parts. I had to sculpt over the chest and make the neck cowl section as well. Overall I am blown away by this Doom design that's coming out and hope someday they'll make an actual figure of him! Here's a baddie from way back, one of Captain America's greatest foes! It's the Red Skull done up in his military uniform with trenc coat. I left the Nazi swastika off his arm band so it didn't offend anyone who came aross him by accident but I'll add it for the winning bidder since he's up for sale on Ebay. He was made from a DC Direct Black Mask head, Marvel Legends Ultimate Nick Fury Trench Coat and Ultimate Captain America body with Ultimate Cyclops' lower legs. Funny how the Cap and Fury come in the same 2-pack and combined perfectly to form him! The Luger pistol came from a Dr Doom, hat was from a Danger Girl Major Maxim, and staff was made from parts. More pics!----> http://www.angelfire.com/mech/jinsaotome/J...s/RedSkull.html An Icons 12" custom has been completed! My first actually, War Machine. He was made exclusivly for a kid's Christmas Basket Auction and some lucky kid will find him under the tree on Christmas day. Sorry, no Ebay for this fellow. However you do gets pics! War Machine was made from the Icons Iron Man body with custom lower jaw sculpt, Galactus BAF hands, Fox Football robot shoulder pads, shoulder Gatling Gun and cannon from some Sigma 6 characters, Omega Red shoulderpads for his kneepads, and other fodder. Neo Shifter parts provided the folding and pivoting arms that hold the weapons over his shoulder and I decked him out with all sorts of airbrushing, weathering, and splatter effects. You can do so much more with larger figures in terms of detail, it just takes a LOT of paint. More pics!-----> http://www.angelfire.com/mech/jinsaotome/J...achine12in.html

It's almost Halloween and that means we need another Ghost Rider! Ol' skull-head was made from the body of the Hasbro 2-pack Ultimate Captain America, boots and gloves from the Hydra Goon, flame from the Toybiz FF Classics Torch, and skull from a Hasbro GR movie figure. The skull's face especially the eyes and brow were resculpted for the wider eyed look like the old Bowen minibust had. I added steel spikes to his shoulders and gloves using real chain with magnetic clasp as well for his accessories. He has a biker wallet chain to so Blackheart's minions can't pick-pocket him. I almost gave him blue highlights because every other Ghost Rider out so far has gray but stuck with the classic look. No bike this time tho, I'll have to work on that later. First off I'd like to thank Kyle Robinson for the whole Red Hulk to MvC Hulk idea months ago. We both have been searching for the Target exclusive Red Hulk wave and a friend sent me me a set early. However Kyle is planning to do a MvC Hulk as well with different features than mine, so keep an eye out for it! This MvC Hulk is basically a repaint of the Target Red Hulk build-a-figure. I had to dremel down much of the shoulders and inner joints to preserve the paint once applied. He was created to match the ingame sprite, not the hand drawn control art, so he's a very bright green. The hair came from an NECA Player Select Raziel and I sculpted little bits of torn shirt overlapping his belt like the sprite had. This hulk body is probably my favorite of all time and it's going to be hell finding another Red Hulk because of the apparent rarity of the Red Hulk wave at Target. For more pics click here!----> http://www.angelfire.com/mech/jinsaotome/J...kRedCapcom.html Enjoy!

A Quick Red Hulk Series Review
Jin Saotome replied to Jin Saotome's topic in Marvel Legends Figure Discussion
It's hair from one of NECA's Player Select Raziel figs that came out recently. THose are awesome figs btw! -
I have to admit I'm impressed with the Target exclusive Red Hulk BAF wave. A friend sent these to me today and I had to break em out. The microtexture of the Onslaught wave figures is back too! SPIRAL She's perfect. People whine because she doesn't have bicep swivels but her arms still pose perfectly and are all double-jointed, plenty of motion. Comes with two swords, a sheathed sword (non removable) and a removable helmet. Removable belt too. Hands down (hah, pun) the best looking Marvel female ever. Could use shading and highlights on the fur, she's just basic colors. However her necklace is sharply painred and has tiny different colored gems, even her pockets have tiny silver buttons. Funny they'd go to that trouble to paint those details but they did. SYMBIOTE SPIDERMAN This is the Spiderman you've been waiting for. Great body sculpt with a perfect symbol, eyes, and cool airbrushed blue shading over his black. Unfortunately China got the designs wrong yet again and gave him spinning meat. That is to say his wrists and ankles are Hasbro ball-cup joints that spin, but he also has cut forearms and calves. This means that center piece spins outta whack. Without those seams he would of looked even better. Suffers from thick-neck-syndrome where his neck and head are the same width. In fact from the side the neck is thicker than his head. Looking head-on tho he's fine, especially crouched. WOLVERINE Almost a dead-on copy of the ML 6 brown Wolvie with the exception of three things. His yellow costume, his waist has been fixed so there's better range of leg motion, and he has shoulderpads. Other than that, same great Wolvie. Paint was skimped on here and he's just basic colors. Could of used some orange shading on the yellow to complete the figure. Same soft claws but nice looking shape. Everyone thought the lower leg design would change but it's still the same. UNION JACK Don't know much about the character but he's decent. Sharp crisp lines, cool head, great body sculpt. Has Deadpool-ish wrist and ankle straps. I see a repaint coming up. Basically the same body style as Spidey except for those lower arm/leg sculpts. Crappy bayonet that's made of soft rubber and so-so gun that can be removed from the holster. I couldn't get the bayonet into the sheathe because it was so rubbery. Basic paint ops again, no airbrushing. Thick-neck-syndrome. Looks good head on but not from the side. WARLOCK Classic hasbro articulation, cut-cup joints everywhere. Makes for a nice slick mold tho. Face is flared out on the sides because of that thick-neck-syndrome yet again. Makes the head really tight too. Whoops, wrong skin tone! He's flesh instead of golden. Might see a running change later? Cool staff, removable cape, permanent Infinity Gauntlet. Basic paint ops again. Infin Gaunt hand has the cool "I rule this world!" look the recent ML FF Doom had. SILVER SAVAGE. Think Fantastic Four BAF wave sufer with new sculpted forearms and shins. Removable vest, comes with a board-shield, club, and sword. Very basic paint apps. No pegs for board but I bet you can rip the shield-straps off underneath and use it as a regular board, adding your own pegs. Sword and club are reallu soft plastic, warp in his hands due to weight. RED HULK The BAF of the wave. Very sturdy feeling. He actually has black airbrushing for shading and that really makes the figure look nice! Not a ton of surface detail, in fact he looks almost exactly like the Marvel vs Capcom Sprite... which I'm turning him in to. His hair in this picture has been changed. Comes with spikey Akumaish hair normally. Great articulation, poses well. Worth the six figures if you like the red Hulk or just want a good BAF. Funny thing to note, the dates on the inside of their legs all say 2006. The dates on all my other 2-pack Hasbro figs, ML FF and such are 2007-2008. Makes me wonder how long the molds were sitting in the factory, figs not yet produced. Red Hulk however has the 2008 stamp. And the reason you should snag a Spiral.... Nuff' said.

Here's my comic version of Iron Man done in metallics as requested. Since I didn't want to do a straight duplicate I mixed it up a little by adding articulated armor from the new Manga Spawn figure. Head is a cast of the Marvel Crossovers TF Iron Man figure courtesy of Kyle Robinson! You can check out his Casting Shop http://kylerobinsoncustoms.com/links/casting.htm to snag this exact head and other heads/accessories for your customizing needs. Iron Man's armor is actually articulated too. The shoulderpads raise up and swivel around on ball-joints and the gauntlets attach via magnets. There ya go, an instant-armored Iron Man! Hey all! I've had requests for this guide pratically every week on every message board, so here it is: How to Take Professional Custom Photos It outlines the steps I take for my pictures and while it may not be news to some people, I hope this helps those of you who are always asking, "How does Jin get those detailed pics?" It's all there folks. Enjoy!

It's Deadpool time again! This one is in my opinion the best DP I've made so far. He was made with 100% recycled parts and no sculpting, whee! He'll be displayed at the SDCC Saturday if I get a spot at the custom panel there. Made from.... Base body is the DCSH Superman Red, Moon Knight head, Batman Movie Master hands, Punisher gun/holster, TMNT movie Leo's backsheathe and swords, witchblade spear for sword handles, Mr Sinister cape straps for ankle cuffs, craftlace for neck cuff, XMC Magneto belt for the bandolier strap, Omega red chest strap for his shoulder strap, Avalanche belt, and unknown belt pouches... whew. Oh wait, I lied, I sculpted the tiny Deadpool belt-buckle like 2 years ago and had it lying in my bin! You could easily paint it on the head of a thumbtack tho.

Here's an oddball character, the Morlock Hemingway from Marvel's Generation X. Toybiz had made a line of 5" figures a long time ago and series 2 never was produced. In it was Hemingway and a few others. I took one look at the new Hulk Movie Abomination and knew I had to bring this unproduced prototype to life! Hemingway was made from the Hulk Abomination Body, and DC Black Mask head. All his spikes, shorts, and the removable bash-fist was hand sculpted using Aves Apoxie Sculpt, the best 2-part modelling compound available. Man the tiny growth lines in the horns and matching the 'sprouting' sections to the original figure's arms was tough! Painting was done using my new favorite 'cheat' technique of paint-wiping. You do a normal wash but just a bit thicker and then wipe across the surface using a damp rag before it dries. The effect is the wash stays in the low sections and you get a more distinct definition between colors than if you did a wash and left it on the entire surface. Doing a paint wipe multiple times blends in the shadows and you can drybrush overtop afterwards.
