  1. I'm the opposite now. I jumped on this guy when the pre-order dropped but to me, this isn't StarLord. Hate to be that guy but I had no idea who Peter Quill was until the 1st GOTG film. And the more I see this figure the more I realize I don't recognize him. And frankly, he isn't very dynamic and he comes off as some generic space police guy. I guess my final judgement will be once he is in hand.
  2. Select Super-Skrull arrived today and I've got to say I'm pleasantly surprised how good this figure is. Compared to the last Select figure I bought, ok well that isn't fair as the last Select figure I got was the Watcher, but before that it was the Destroyer, MCU Dr. Strange and Thor with the spinny hammer effect. Super-Skrull blows them all away. Yes, he is larger but he is SUPER Skrull after all. His articulation is miles better than any figure ive experienced by Select. Accessories are ok: an extra head (nicely done) a sonic effect (cool idea poorly implemented) and extra hands. Normally I get Select figures for the accessories (looking at you Ice Man) but this figure will EASILY fit into your Legends collections
  3. Two MAJOR boxes checked for my "Unofficial because it isnt technically Secret Wars branding but hey c'mon.. this IS Secret Wars" collection. Ive been trying to build both Hero and Jerks teams for years but fell asleep at the wheel a few times (Doc Ock) and had to chase him down and a few like those awful Wrecking Crew figures I just skipped because how bad they were. But when Galactus was announced I jumped back to my hopes that one day my Secret Wars display will be complete. Monica is a figure we have literally waited years to get and she looks amazing. and Ive always loved this version of Doom going back to the comics and the original Mattel toys so i really want this guy too. Overall the Avengers 60th Anniversary is shaping up quite nicely
  4. Agree.. if I recall there wasnt a ton of offensive weaponry on this version. Stark was always going on about transistors and magnets. Seems like he could "push" enemies and fly upright haha. Since he was continually running out of juice a more appropriate accessory would have been a power cord
  5. Both covers are beautiful. Alex's artwork has always been a step above. I like that his ego isn't so big that he wouldn't "cover" another artists work. That homage is instantly recognizable even though he put his own spin on it. The Avengers cover is brilliant. Just by chance the right side of the group shot has most of my favorites. This too could be an homage to Perez style team shots. All this being said I react as one would to fingernails on a chalkboard when I hear "Marvel" and "Variant"...
  6. So I flip flopped on this decision but I picked up the Select Super Skrull. I know he is bigger than standard Legends but hey this is a Skrull... does scale matter? I've gotten Select figures to fill holes before, most notably The Watcher, a couple Chitauri soldiers and the Destroyer, and this Skrull will fit in with my Pulse Skrulls, the Super Skrull BAF and the upcoming Legends 2 pack just nicely. Anyone else getting the Select Skrull to use with Legends?
  7. I know my Walmart has only had remnants of the Black Panther and the D+ Wave with He Who Remains. Used to be a reliable store for newer stuff. But never saw and XMen retro or much else lately
  8. Great art. Reminds of those Swimsuit Specials Marvel did back in the day. So cheesy I can agree, comics has cross-over / enter your favorite Verse-here oversaturation but honestly they have for years. Between too many yearly crossovers and too many variants, that $#!$ made me loose interest I'm collecting monthly books more than the cost
  9. We can definitely count on a gold release at some point. I just sold off my old Toybiz (both gray and gold) in anticipation of this figure. He looks to be miles better than that old TB version Love it when Hasbro goes to the beginning and gets us some first appearance goodness
  10. Yeah I wasn't clear which was the animated and which was from the standard Legends line at first. "Animated" figures like these were why it took me a while to resolve my inner turmoil about collecting them. Since some could fit into the regular waves and let's be honest, a bad paint job didn't really make then "animated". But the recent MCU stuff is much more... well cartoony.. (obviously) so thats where I drew the line. The into the Spiderverse stuff is waaaaày worse so easy conflict resolution to not collect. These Spidervwrse stuff almost doesn't look like it even fits in with the first wave they put put a while back. All animated stuff, to me, might as well be a different line moving forward.
  11. So for once the cell shading looks pretty good on Symbiote Spidey.
  12. How is that Spider-Woman a woman? I know we have some fun with character shape but there is literally no female anatomy on that design. Am I missing something? So yeah, I agree with most that these designs are absolutely terrible. I made the decision for myself that I'll not partake in animated versions and these pics solidify that choice. The first movie was ok but very overrated by comic fandom. This sequel looks to be more of the same so easy pass on both the film and the "Legends"
  13. Once again foiled by the Great White North. Seems there was a time when the States got product first. I appreciate the offer but I am going to try to build Puff Adder as well so I'll need the BAF parts as well.
  14. I agree, Hasbro has been known to strike whike the Iron is hot. So a re-release of that figure is no surprise. I wonder however if Hasbro may drop a few "skins" figures for Miles like they did with Spidey Armor MKwhatever and the Velocity suit? I know those were shrugged at when the wave first dropped with those two Gamerverse figures but it seems they can get pretty pricey on the secondary market now.
  15. These Gamerverse figures have fast become just like the What If? figures. Though this one looks like it is the same or very close to the comics, but the rest have no place in standard Legends collections. I've sworn off these "sub lines" altogether. Well I have since the last line when we got the Zombies. The animated stuff, including the upcoming Into The Spiderverse stuff as well as video game figures I have successfully calmed my inner nerd and can easily pass on.
  16. I've always liked Bucky's Cap suit and will be glad to get him updated in Legends. Did Alex Ross have a hand in Bucky Caps design? I ask because his Spider-Man concept was very similar
  17. 100% agree. The series was ahead if it's time. A rare case of the imitators rising above their original premise. Great stuff
  18. I'm right there too. The Gruenwald series is really what I call the classic version. I remember reading the issue where Dr Spectrum inadvertently kills Nuke while trying to restrain him. There is a one panel throw away scene where a little kid (Nuke's little brother?) is playing with Squadron Supreme action figures. Now all these years later we are getting SS figures. Pretty cool. I always thought there would be no way we'd get any version of the Squadron due to their inspiration being the heavy hitters at DC. but now if we get an updated Nighthawk, he will ironically look the closest he ever has to Batman.
  19. So to be clear we have Hyperion (Hit Monkey BAF) and Nighthawk (Thanos BAF) from one version of the Squadron. Then we have Hyperion and Dr. Spectrum from a different version. And a 2nd box set of the Hyp/ Dr. Spec team coming. Maybe. There may be some cross over here but would it have been too much to ask to stick to one version? It's not like Hasbro has a great track record for completing ANY team let alone two versions of one team. And need I point out that another 2 pack leaves the newest version of the Squadron one member short? I think we can all imagine Hasbro leaving us one member short of a team again. One could argue that Rachel or Marinna are more well known than Power Princess ( for example) but Hasbro has yet to complete Excalibur or Alpha Flight. All this being said my tastes lean towards the the older versions of the Squad but I love super teams so I've got some decisions to make regarding these sets.I've flip flopped on the Hyp/ Spec set so many times already.
  20. Very nice work. Wish Hasbro had your attention to detail, the hair is perfect. There is something very cool a out this suit for Quicksilver. Though very basic it is also very striking
  21. I did not know they weren't an official team. I read the first run and ot was okay but it didn't feel like an Avengers book. I actually wondered why it had ties to the Avengers at all as not once did anyone on the team say the word "Avengers". Guess that should have tipped me off I get what you're saying about watering down a franchise. Being a huge horror movie fan I often see films take the name of an established franchise and basically bastardize it into something unrecognizable. Too bad I this case
