  1. Love it. I got too nostalgic with wave 1, and kinda got blinded to issues there. There really are/were some BIG faults in the first AOA wave (see eBay for reference). Some facial expressions here are odd, and I'm praying we don't have the female-action-figure-body-narks out (yes, Rogue needs bigger hips, but this is AOA Rogue. In that dystopian reality, women's hips shrink after mutant childbirth). More seriously, it's the source material: sculpt is an absolute dead match for one of Roger Cruz's solo Rogue covers (poss #3 of Astonishing X-Men, 1995). Plus, Sabertooth and Magneto....perfect.
  2. AOA Legion? Considering he wasn't in the Age of Apocalypse (I know he was the catalyst for AOA story), that's an odd choice - would have thought an early New Mutants / Bill Sienkiwicz David Haller or a contemporary Hickman era Legion would have gone over better. There are many, many more AOA characters I'd like to see, but I'm totally happy with this line up and the BAF. Kitty & Colossus - yes, please!!!
  3. That's a fair enough point - the older MCU figures seriously need a refresh - there should at least be parity between the comic and movie versions of do-over Legends. Pretty much the only MCU mainstay with 2020/21 quality is Black Widow, and older versions of Cap, Iron Man, Hulk etc. really show their age. And, I honestly don't resent these figures: I'm glad they're making the MCU buyers happy. I did buy the Fox figs (Cable, Mystique, Domino, Deadpool & Warhead) but I'm still scratching my head as to why. Box art was great, and the figures were/are not bad at all, but...I don't know, just don't care about them, really. So, with new MCUA, it's 2 figures and two figures only. Collector self-discipline, there....
  4. Snoooooore. New generic suit body needed, I think Hasbro....this is not so much ubiquitous as epidemic. And it was boring two decades ago. Still, so glad they've sandwiched the Disney+ wave between Xenmu & Ursa Major waves...3 full waves of Legends in one month is too many, so can leave the Disney+ wave untouched. June will be tough enough, especially when I've got the Lego Marvel Daily Bugle set (£275!!!!!!!) to stump up for, too...
  5. At the risk of being blunt, pretty much all of these MCUA figs suck and are brutally overpriced. I don't begrudge MCU fans these at all though, and some of them I may possibly consider buying (Quicksilver and Infinity War Cap) but all of these figures have seen multiple releases, multiple times, and have warmed pegs multiple times too: there's only so much demands for guys & gals in suits or casual wear (counting the Shang-Chi and Eternals wave here, too) and/or MCU folk that have been done to death. With this thing too, why didn't they do something different? I was thinking this could be a guy fits in armour suit deal because of the large size of the 'Monger, or if that were too complex, follow the ancient (but still totally kick-ass) Toy Biz Hulkbuster Iron Man, with the flip-up helmet and a properly sculpted, posable, Stark head inside. I've mentioned the balance issue before, so all I can say is in 6 months time these are going to be insanely cheap. And everywhere.
  6. Monron999 - dude, are you reading my mind or am I reading yours?? Clearly 'Great minds think etc. etc.'!
  7. It's an odd one, this new She-Hulk, and honestly don't know if I like it. Looking at the evolution of She-Hulk, I'm ranking good old Red at #1, new She-Hulk at #2 and 'What were Hasbro thinking here?' She-Hulk (A-Force) a distant third. She got that giraffe neck, stupid hair and face and a boring costume. The head swap doesn't work either: new She-Hulk is maybe three or four shades lighter. I'm clinging on to the vain hope that they'll go back to this sculpt for a third time, and finally give us the Lyra we missed out on with the Hit Monkey BAF Wave from about 86million years ago. Or Thundra (the face needs a fix) and I think someone already mentioned Valkyrie (comic, New Defenders era). Both of those are pretty horrible, and the Valkyrie from the early days of Hasbro still looks way better facially and bodily - she's just about three feet short and has horrible articulation though. They could also revisit Red She-Hulk (I think the body sculpt is a winner), do a super-size Polaris (Muir Island/Shadow King arc) and maybe even Secret Wars Titania. Have I missed anyone?
  8. What I usually do with MCU focussed waves is hate the reveal or preview images, buy the wave anyway (for the comic-based dudes) then end up liking the wave a lot more than I thought (Black Widow wave, though Red Guardian sucks before, during and after reveal and purchase). That said, Iron Man AI is bad and untimely: the definitive pegwarmer of this wave (why this thing, then another hologram Iron Man in the excellent & imminent Ursa BAF Wave to follow? Actually, you could do Stealth Hologram Iron Man. So exciting.) and Civil Warrior is...okayish. He really needs a bunch of accessories and swap heads to get over with me. Even the BAF is a bit too cartoonish. It looks like they've super-sized the Leprechaun on the Simpsons rather than taken the psycho mid-1980s Masters of Evil version. That dude nearly killed Hercules: this one would just make him chortle. So, yeah....Not loving this at all. Hope I'll be wrong, but this lot....? Its a big ask when the comic characters are just blah. And the BAF is blah-ha-ha.
  9. Thirded! I'm going to buy ALL comic figures anyway, but I do think the bespoke waves are limiting, and more likely to put collectors off. For me, 10 dedicated AOA waves would be fine, but not everyone likes that arc, and I think ALL waves should try and appeal to the broadest cross-section of fans. I don't want to think how long it's taken, or how much money I've spent to get the full 1992 X-Men #1 line-up, but it's been worth it. I still don't have a 100% complete AOA team; or an All-New X-Men team (Banshee needed), a 1985/Mutant Massacre era team (Rachel and Kitty needed) or an early years New Mutants team, but the thought that I'm close is a hell of an incentive to buy more!
  10. For me, this is just two figures short of being an absolutely perfect wave. Really surprised, and delighted, that they went with Ursa Major as the BAF. Never imagined they'd do this guy, so the wave was an immediate pre-order 10 seconds after I saw this. The volume (and choice) of Iron Man figures, though? Too much. And that seems to be the consensus from everyone else's posts. Stealth & Hologram aren't bad, but they are 100% NOT needed (better as store exclusives IMHO, especially as another regular Iron Man with hologram head is also imminent-ish). With those gone Titanium Man, Vanguard, comic Whiplash, classic Crimson Dynamo could have been included, and I can't help thinking these would have made a truly beautiful and flawless wave. Also, really happy with how the figures turned out, the wealth of swap heads and the lack of repaints: Ironheart (no interest in her as a character, but that figure looks great); Darkstar is not necessarily how I'd have done her, but I still love the fact that this figure is happening. And the Modular Armour Iron Man & Vault Guardsman are both superb. That's a cracking wave, and makes up for the horrific Shang Chi & Eternals waves and a so-so Villains/Xenmu wave.
  11. This is how certain? And has it become too much of a cliche after a reveal to type - a la Fry from Futurama, of course - "Shut up and take my money!"? Excalibur #1. Captain Britain. Meggan. Shadowcat. Rachel. Nightcrawler. Don't care if Kurt and Brian are just repaints, or think anything other than these characters, in their Exc.#1 costumes, is needed: just swap heads for CB & a 'no hairspray' Kitty (less of that huge 1980's hair). That just leaves Rogue before I've got a complete 1985 team of Marvel Legends X-Men. Love you Hasbro!!!!! I'll confess: I'm honestly surprised (but not skeptical) as I would have thought New Mutants would have been a cheaper, more topical and easier option. You've got a team of just five: Mirage, Cannonball, Karma, Wolfsbane and Sunspot. And they were in a movie which was actually released. And I quite liked it. No-one else did. Either way, I will believe, hope then buy.
  12. Dude, I stand humble and happily corrected on both points. Just to check though: Return was the same arc as Ages of Apocalypse wasn't it? Like AOA 2? Chris Bachalo pencilled? My knowledge of RTTAOA is limited to one issue of the limited series I read in a comic store, about 10 years ago. Hated it. And, you're right with Age of X too (liked that quite a bit), although her floating around the x-world with a bunch of other telepaths didn't really make her a standout character. Hence, kinda forgot she was in it. I'd literally die for an 'Evolution of Psylocke' 3-pack (actually, left to me, I'd want a 6 pack, but I'm being kinda realistic'ish) (1). Alan Davis/New Mutants annual debut issue, frilly English maid costume, (2). Silvestri Fall of the Mutants/Inferno armour, and either Crimson Dawn, Kwannon or UXF. Can't think of any other x-character, male or female, with that many cool 'looks' but....never going to happen🤔
  13. Psylocke wasn't in Age of Apocalypse or Ages of Apocalypse, even. Or Age of X for that matter. I don't know why she didn't make the cut, when a non-powered Brian Braddock and a half-bald Emma Frost did, but there you go. Personally, I think she would have been a great inclusion in AOA (as a baddie) and I'd really, really loved to have seen Roger Cruz or Joe Madureira's dynamic AOA take on her supercool Marc Silvestri costume (the late-1980s cowl, cape and armour in purple and lilac). That, as a figure, would go down waaaaay better than Psylocke in the recent Amazon Exc. boxset with Nimrod & Fantomex.
  14. Sabertooth, Magneto, Cyclops, Quicksilver, Rogue, Gambit - I'd put money on all of these. Easy repaints, few new heads and straps - job done. Which is okay-ish, I guess. Maybe big okay with a stable, more bulging and rounded 2021 Holocaust - sorry, Nemesis BAF. Killer BAF but I'm on my 3rd lower torso piece (fault lines around joints: brittle plastic) and 6th head/carapace (canopy clips break over and over again....over time, they do NOT get cheaper. Although I look at that picture of AOA Wolverine from the cover of AOA X-Men Unlimited #2 and it makes me nervous....Hasbro might go with that....thing. I just can't see the BAF being Abyss. I'd love it to be, but...nah. I bleed AOA and I don't even know what he looks like in profile. Personally, I'd stick with Magneto, Cyclops and Sabertooth. My dream assortment (never going to happen) would also have Shadowcat, Colossus, Husk, Blink, Exodus and Mondo as BAF. Because...why the hell not? If they wanted, a third wave wouldn't be hard: Angel, Banshee, Iceman, Bishop, Havok, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Storm (actually, even Skin could be done from the first Walmart ML Mr Fantastic) are all as recognisable and easy to do as wave one (repaints & new heads for all but one) but they should probably show some love to other corners of the x-universe and more general MU first.
  15. It's a weird one, this. After missing out on Retro carded Rogue (average ebay price to UK buyers: £60 + £12 - £20 import charge, so, that's about $125 for a figure I already own, on a dumber card and with a slightly tweaked head & hand sculpt....totally worth it 😂) I now pre-order ALL Marvel Legends: good, bad or indifferent. Obsidian Surfer was one I couldn't care less about. I've got the first one (from the SE Exclusive F4 singles) and it's a nice figure, with a bunch of stuff, but it's one I also don't care about at all. I think a redo of Silver Savage would have made me more excited (it's needed, too - the ancient Hasbro version is 🤮). I know absolutely nothing about why the dude is graphite coloured, why he's feuding with King Thanos (?) and why he's got Mjolnir now, so if anyone can explain, that would be great. Despite the pre-amble, I actually really liked this. The colour scheme is good (especially considered it's one colour only); pretty sure Mjolnir is mostly a new sculpt and the blast effects are a good colour contrast. Also, he actually stays on the surfboard! But, blast effects...not so good. After endless swapping of hands and effects, they fall off even worse than Pyro. There are a million figures I'm going like more (especially now that the Iron Man wave seems a definite), but this is good.
  16. General point: has there even been a teaser trailer for Shang-Chi or the Eternals movies? I can't have missed both. I think Hasbro should seriously reign in details of (and pictures, even more) any waves based on forthcoming movies likely to be delayed, because we're judging these waves in a vacuum. Think about the Black Widow movie & wave. Figures have been out over a year, movie pending. Despite my huge initial reservations, it's a GOOD line, with a nice MCU/Comic split. The MCU figures are excellent (except Red Guardian) and the comic figures even better. But looking at the retail situation now, they can't give the damn figures away cheap enough, whilst the comic guys are still hot (yeah, sorry, not Spymaster, but wtf?!?!). And Black Widow is a known quantity. So, at the risk of being the 'Voice of Doom'. This movie, and wave, seem risky. And I know next to nothing about both.
  17. I may be wrong, watanabefan, and if I am, I apologise in advance, but: (1). Is this Rektangular bashing/correcting really necessary? He's been doing this forever, he's more right than he is wrong, and he has no sponsorship or platform to 'guide' his content. If he's made a howling mistake, why don't you just politely message him on the clip/content you know is wrong? (2). As with the Eternals wave, I'm thinking the only two people in the world excited about this wave are in this forum. The last MCU Mandarin was...what it was, and this is going to be A. N. Other variation on same. If it even is the Mandarin. As I said, apologies if you weren't just trying to knock ol' Rektangular with excessive pedantry and/or I've misunderstood you.
  18. Well, this is....underwhelming. I don't know if Disney/Hasbro were deliberately aiming for a Game of Thrones meets Lost in Space or Star Trek lite vibe, but if they were, goal achieved. I have a natural comic bias, and I don't want to deflate the enthusiasm of those that like this, but gotta say: this is risky. This is an entire wave based on a completely untested corner of the Marvel Universe and the MCU. These are tough times for toys and tough times for films, and in the past, waves of Legends based on underperforming Marvel films (Spider-Man Far From Home, Captain Marvel & Dr Strange spring to mind) can be saved by cool comics figures (or, you can flip that round and say weaker Legends waves were saved by strong MCU figures. I wouldn't argue that myself, but, y'know...). And, just taking these images as they are, I don't see any of the elements that make Marvel's metaphysical characters, Eon, Living Tribunal, Death, Supreme Intelligence, Watcher, Galactus etc. freaky, cosmic, otherworldly and goddamn cool-looking. If you're not a huge fan of the movie, as a casual collector, why would you buy this bland ass wave of refugees from a Galactic Senate subcommittee? And the BAF is Gilgamesh? The worst, and most laughable Avenger ever? Universally hated and pointless, because his gimmick is that he is the forgotten one? Well, maybe Disney knows something I don't, because they are blitzing the Eternals movie with collectables: they get FOUR sets of Lego this year (no other MCU property has achieved more than three since Avengers Infinity War), multiple deluxe Legends and a full movie wave. That's only been done once before (Black Panther Wave 2)....and even with that super popular film, the wave died a death.
  19. That's some fine hair work, there. They've made the effort again here, and this is a damn good figure: nothing but good things to say about it and hope my Pre-order hits soon. But did I miss a Ms Lion with an ML MJ figure? Far as I knew, that was an old Marvel Universe deal only. Legends MJ just got a bag accessory and/or was a swap head for Gwen Stacey on the retro cards.
  20. I don't know, @tarot old chap. I'm working on the basis that even a six figure wave can become seven or eight (or 50) really quickly (Variant Storm, Black Cat, Gambit, Rogue etc.) There's no wave 2 X-Men or Spider-Man retro, but there's been countless singles. And all those Iron Man suits in a non-movie wave? That's pushing it!!
  21. Darkstar! Squeeeeal! Rumour or not, the possibility of Darkstar is enough to get a huuuuge pop from me (yeah, Vanguard & Ursa are needed to, but just to be able to tick this one off my 'They'll never make 'em' list of Legends, will be so sweet & historic, I'd feel anything more is pushing my luck). But this isn't a retro wave? The esoteric characters and Iron Man suit variations literally screams retro. They surely wouldn't do the always pointless stealth armour and Iron Heart in a regular wave, would they? Ah, screw it. As long as there is Darkstar and none of these guys suffer from Silver Centurion Iron Man's inexplicably poorly articulated neck syndrome, Hasbro can crank out whoever they want and knock out as many F4 or Iron Man retro carded (or not) figures as they want.
  22. Kilts & Islamic garments are very, very different things. Scottish people wear kilts (a). Because they have to in a ceremonial or military context or (b). Because they want to celebrate their 'glorious' history of clan affiliation (some people in Scotland believe that they are honouring their ancient ancestral 'clan' by wearing a specific pattern of tartan on their kilts & etc. Sadly, historical research has shown that the idea of clans dates back to the late Victoria era, and the resurgence in historical nationalism & romanticism in the literature of the time). So, it's not really different to choosing to wear a tie. This is very different to the clothes worn by Islamic women. Muslim women may 'choose' (or choose, I guess) what they wear according to (a). How orthodox they are and (b). Where they live and what type of Islam is their law (secular and religious). So, that means you may wear just a headscarf (hijab), a niqab (the 'letterbox' veil, where only the eyes are visible, like Dust from X-Men) or the burkha (total coverage, headscarf and veil. Closest thing in Marvel Legends would be the AIM soldiers, but with a scarf rather than a weird helmet-thing). Or, probably most commonly, they may wear none of those things. Ms Marvel is a case in point: no part of her costume is explicitly religious/Islamic, but that's because the character is a modern, progressive young Liberal Muslim living in a pre-dominantly secular society (her mum, however, does wear the hijab). Neither cosplay, nor regular, Ms Marvel (solely judged by costume) could be considered a stereotype in any way. But the point is kilts = secular, fashion choice. Hijab/niqab/burkha = expressions of faith and/or legal requirement to wear. Personally, I don't get offended by, say, the name Scalphunter (NOT a Muslim!) and think Marvel's explanation for changing it to 'Greycrow' (it causes offense to Native Americans, apparently) are weak. I'm actually okay with stereotypes in comics because you work on the basis that a really cool character, or costume, can explain something about that character without painfully long lectures. Dani Moonstar's bow & arrow & both Proudstar brothers' codenames are a bit cliche; as is calling the token British superhero agent type Union Jack; the mutant from Japan just has to be a (Silver) Samurai and so on. But, in the hands of great comic writers, clichés like this can be explored, rejected, challenged and subverted (but ONLY as a MINOR part of a book/story). Marvel hasn't got too many great (or good) writers nowadays though, so ponderous extended dialogue about identity politics takes the place of exposition, character development and thematic progression, IMHO. And this cosplay Ms Marvel? I like it. Please could someone who doesn't get a Marvel Unlimited Subscription anyway, shout me & eBay it? This was the only way I could get Rescue, and she was worth every penny of the £60.00 I paid. Now, anyone who has got this far, wake up, and tell me which Marvel Comics character/Legends figure(s) or characters ARE offensive to you, and why.
  23. Well...um....a mixture. Thanos - cool. Glad they've got around to supersizing the old 3.75" Marvel Universe version. Like the alt head, but is this like an 'Old Man Thanos' kinda deal? (Not complaining: I always like alt heads). Stiltman wave - loved 'Into the Spiderverse', but none of these animation based figures are for me. I know they'll be loved by many, and they are good figures. Stiltman is a wonderful BAF; I'm fine with the generic ninja & Frog-man (this makes me smile. Who'dathought it? This guy? Love it). HoX/Dox/PoX wave - okay, that Cyclops is nice. I can dig it. But (a). Is there some new rendering here in the x-images? Are these actual figures, or renders? I'm NOT saying they suck, but all of the X-Men figures look slightly unreal, maybe Cell-shaded, like BorderLands 3? And the red lady, is that Karima? And who the hell is the BAF here??
  24. Benn - I may disagree with you on some design/aesthetic choices and a tiny bit on the speed of the design & manufacturing process (which has seriously accelerated) but what I want to say most of all is that I absolutely loved reading this. All of it. You know (much) more about the current x-books than I do (and any situation where one assimilates new information is good), and the bullet list alone was great as food for thought (an M or a Tempus figure? Oh, my! Yes, please!!! Just to pose Eva between white Magneto and MN! Cyclops & Emma Frost (black togs/Walgreens) would make me very happy indeed - and it's an easy do). I have no counter-arguments and I just want to say 'Thank you' for a great message and an enjoyable, informed and elegantly articulated read. For me, that's a debate and a discussion worth having and worth listening to. Respect to you, sir. 👍👍👍
