  1. i did got some deals on ebay back in my first few years of collecting say 2014 - 2016 altho i don't remember a lot of the specifics, just getting pretty good deals on the Marvel Universe Galactus, and the Terrax BAF.

Recently have been catching up on 2022/2021 figures at clearance prices.  For $12.50 each picked up Classic Loki and Everett Ross at Target as well as classic Havok,  Okoye and Hatut Zeraze (which finished Attuma) from Besy Buy.  For $10 or less picked up Ben and Reed from retro FF wave at Kids Warehouse as well as the Vault Guardsman from the Ursa Major wave on Amazon. Have hit some other good sales in the past year such as Benn's store sale as well as Deep Discount.

These days i am mostly pretty patient and will wait for moderate sales for stuff on my must buy list but can wait a long time for anything thats more in the "maybe" category. Almost all of my figures are bought on sale, with some exceptions made for exclusives (especially if i see them in store) plus a rare impulse buy at msrp

Supposedly Hasbro is cutting back on the size of runs (according to rektangular and nerdzoic, i guess) by like 30% which would certainly impact how much of this stuff ends up on clearance. I'll see it when i believe it but until then will continue playing the long game.  i'm mostly content with my collection anyhow so if i miss out on a few characters not the end of the world, its happened before and will happen again

  2. has anyone been seeing any 2023 figures in WM/Target yet?  Mine just have BP wave remnants as well as various D+ wave figures on the pegs. Managed to pick up mcu Classic Loki and Everett Ross for $12.50 each at Target recently.

Best buy having a clearance sale - used it to pick up Okoye and Hatut Z to finish Attuma (my first BAF completion from 2022), and finally got Havok as well!! Was also tempted by Guardsman and mcu Quicksilver as both are under $10.

I already have the BAF Okoye so i guess one of the Okoyes will end up with one of the Dora heads.  Gonna try and make Hatut into White Tiger although i doubt the green necklace from the previous White Tiger female fig will fit, we'll see!

  3. yeah its hilarious that everyone was arguing over what BAF would be good enough to entice them into buying more than a couple of figs from the wave... only to find out there's no BAF at all.  the subsequent negativity is kind of hasbro's own fault - probably should've just announced that it was a retro wave from the get go.

Looks like an avg of 2 accessories per figure - most have 2, Tarantula has 0 and Rose has 5 (altho can he hold both guns? if not why give him 2?). No alternate heads at all in this wave either.

Rose and Tarantula are both characters that theoretically should appeal to me but neither is really essential for my Spidey's rogues gallery. Like everyone else i'll just wait for a price drop - probably i would bite at $15 or under for either.

So far i have 9 must-haves on my 2023 list, plus another 17 maybes (i guess make that 19 with Tarantula and Rose). right now i've mostly been chipping away at some on my "maybe" list from 2022 that i've been able to find on sale recently.

    For those curious my must-haves

    • Ant-Man
    • Avalanche
    • Blob
    • Dark Phoenix
    • Ronan
    • Wonder Man
    • Yondu
    • Monica & Doom 2-pack

feels like these days most of the figs i want are exclusives, deluxe, or multi-figure sets.  i expect that pattern to continue.  I do think the retro X-men wave, Ch'od wave, and Puff Adder waves look pretty good, this retro spider-wave will hopefully be an aberration rather than a turning point.

What is the connection between Monica and Secret Wars Dr. Doom? I've read that limited series so many times but there wasnt a specific interaction between them. Not complaining,  getting Monica checks off both my Avengers AND Secret Wars with this one.

They do briefly interact - in issue 10 (iirc) when Galactus is about to absorb the energy of his home Taa II (or whatev), at the last minute all the energy seems to be diverted.  Monica goes off to check it out, eventually they realize Doom has stolen the energy. unfortunately the now near-omnipotent Doom realizes she is spying on him and freezes her in light form. After this Doom takes on the Beyonder and gets the armor that looks like the toy figure.

    That's all i got

I'm looking forward to Hawkeye and Sky Cycle whenever it gets announced, but I do worry about what the price will likely be.... I could envision anything from $39.99 to $79.99, but I'm hoping that it's toward the lower end of that.... I'd normally expect something around $49.99 but since deluxe Blob was more than that.... and knowing that this is an "anniversary" release, it will likely be higher than that.

Gotta be $50 at least.  if its part of an anniversary line probably another $5 on top of that.  I'll predict $60.

"Nice" crooked paintjob on the lips here, too. At least for me, it's bad enough that I would return it. With prices going up, I'm going to be pickier, even though quality control seems to be going down. Of course, if the boxes weren't solid, this could be prevented, and I just wouldn't buy a figure with crooked lips in the first place... Hasbro is making it less and less fun to collect. They seem to think they can't alienate hardcore collectors, but I've been collecting this line since the first ToyBiz series, and I am buying fewer and fewer figures at regular price, going down to one or two figures per wave, waiting on discounts for the rest, and many deluxe figures, multi-packs, etc..

the packaging is certainly putting them at a competitive disadvantage where it (debatably) matters most, in the toy aisles of Target and Walmart. Both McFarlane and Mattel figures pop out much more in the aisle since you can see their figures.  Are there people who actually refuse to buy Mattel/mcFarlane because of the plastic use? I suspect the proportion who are that hardcore about environmentalism is pretty low.  Maybe someday when their competitors move to plastic-free packaging this would make sense, but between lousy packaging, fewer accessories, and most of all higher prices, Hasbro seems to be doing all it can to push collectors away from this hobby.

Typical Hasbro... Release the figure with a masked head sculpt and release the figure again with an alternate unmasked head sculpt.

I haven't done a thorough analysis, but the number of wave figures that come with alternate heads seems to have radically diminished since the price increase to $25.   Look at the House of X wave where 5 characters came with alternate heads.  in contrast most of the recent waves i've looked at had 1 figure with an alternate head, in a few instances 2.  OTOH seems like many "deluxe" offerings above the $25 price point do get an alternate head as part of the package.

    a few examples

    Controller wave - Quake

    Bonebreaker wave -  wolverine

    Ch'od wave - nobody

    Retro x-wave - Wolverine & Madrox

    MoM Wave - nobody

    L & T wave - Jane

    WF wave - Nakia

Puff Adder wave - Captain America

    GotG v3 - nobody

maybe folks can find some good counterexamples, but i think we had best get used to alternate heads being a rarity for wave figs. Not sure whether normal priced exclusives are above/below the wave rate in terms of alternate heads

I saw similar sentiment about the Ant-Man wave and was just as baffled then.

well, at least with the ant-man i can think of 2 legit gripes, namely the usual comic & mcu mix upsetting people who only collect one or the other, as well as the fact that neither Jan nor Scott comes with shrunken form accessory, which is always upsetting for characters with shrinking powers.

but yeah otherwise the same, i think anyone who wanted scott or jan is relatively happy with the previous versions, but nevertheless its pretty weird to expect hasbro to skip them over for the new movie.

  9. I get the gripes but that seems to be because most of us are content with the GotG figures we already have and thus new versions of Peter, Nebula, Drax and Rocket seem skippable. But it seems silly to expect that Hasbro wouldn't make figures for them for this movie, especially when they are all in matching uniforms.

For people suggesting cosmo should've been released as a wave figure, i dunno i think its hard to argue against most of the characters inclusion except maybe kraglin who might've worked as a store exclusive.  still, due to his many scene-stealing appearances i think he was a safer bet in the wave than cosmo. yeah cosmo is likely to be a breakout character who is popular but its hard to say for sure in advance.  i'll say the female voice threw me off in the holiday special, wasn't what i was expecting. but still looking forward to more cosmo in GotG3

Groot could've been the BAF but he's the obvious choice for a deluxe figure and it seems like they like to do those for most mcu movies these days.

at the end of the day i too am unsure i really need another set of the main crew but i can understand why hasbro went that route. i'm sure Gamora is coming (probably an exclusive) and likely High evolutionary as well.  so really hasbro has covered all the major characters from the movie, which is something we as fans should generally be in favor of.

  10. I think many of us are on the same page as far as not really needing another figure for Scott and Hope, but yeah completely ridiculous to expect hasbro not to make figures for these two in an Ant Man movie wave.

I suspect there will be a separate figure or 2-pack as well - probably either normal sized Cassie or MODOK.  I suppose there is a small chance for Hank or Jan figs but I wouldn't count on those.

And certainly this wave is another one that may make us question how long the mixed BAF waves will continue, hard to see too many hot sellers in this wave.  But at the end of the day that's Hasbro's problem, I'll just keep cherry picking (mostly after things get marked down) and hope the line doesn't die anytime soon

  11. On the mcu side I will likely grab Kang especially as it appears he will be appearing in multiple films (I think?). Don't need another Ant-Man or Wasp and probably not Cassie either.   Egghead and Crossfire both look good.  Somebody else will have to highlight the differences between this Ultron and the Ursa Major wave version;  as it stands, i don't see enough different to merit another purchase.    So in the end likely 3 purchases from this wave for me

  12. I think if hasbro had ant-man figures coming out in time for the movie we already would've heard.  I suspect there is a wave to accompany this movie but with all the schedule shuffling maybe they will arrive in a few months.  Although tbh the last Wasp pegwarmed hard so maybe hasbro is a bit skittish when it comes to this franchise's merchandising

  13. Not really interested in Ultimate Cap but most of that Avengers wave is pretty appealing.  Hopefully the wave has a cool BAF

not much interest in the x-men set, although i wouldn't mind adding Vertigo and Pretty Boy to the collection, neither are essential however. Still kinda sour about Mastermind/Wyngarde (and, to a lesser extent, Callisto) only being available thru the Wolverine 5-pack

passing on the training uniform stuff but maybe this means a classic Banshee is only a few more years away 😛

  14. Amazon has a $10 coupon on the renew your vows 2-pack

    amazon renew your vows 2-pack

Aside from that have had some nice hauls recently with 2022 ML figures, all on sale woo hoo!!!

    • from Benn's store I got 20th Cap and Firelord at great prices!! thanks!!!!!
    • from target got the Peter & Ned 2-pack $10 off
    • from gamestop got Toad (also Marvel select Titanium Man) 25% off each

FOr those curious, with RYV I am up to 15 comic figures from 2022 plus 3 MCUs (wong, pete, ned).. all sale purchases except for 2 Walgreen exclusives.

I do feel like i should try and support the line by getting a few more figures at msrp, but i dunno at $25 its hard to pull the trigger when i see these in stores and i don't feel much FOMO, whether its from being a long-time collector to seeing inventory move more slowly due to the higher prices, just feels like patience always pays off.

Remaining on my must-get list for 2022

    • Havok
    • Black Panther
    •  MCU She-Hulk
    • MCU Moon Knight

Plus a bunch of maybes. Let the sales continue!!!!!!

  15. wow a lot of ranting there.  but of course the real question will be whether posters like this put their money where their mouth is and boycott this Sentry figure to show their displeasure, or whether they are all talk and in the end will shell out for the supposedly not-up-to-snuff version of the figure.  I suspect most collectors who want a Sentry figure will buy this version despite any misgivings they have about grim reaper mold or whatever

sentry ain't cap or thor, the character doesn't merit  fancy premium anniversary editions like those characters have gotten.

not interested in rehashing ancient debates about mr hyde or bucky cap mold etc

  16. feels like it would have been smarter to release this around the time of the MK series airing but whatever, easy pass, cool for folks who missed the 1st time around, i guess. Altho no BAF piece and more expensive this time around

Re-use seems to be the name of the game more than ever nowadays so I expect to see more straight up re-released figures like this in upcoming months.  Feels like this is another way they are taking a note from how the Black series does things

Just figured I'd let everyone know, in case anybody was interested.

Great sale and happy to support.  Was psyched to get 20th Cap at that price and also Firelord for $20, plus ordered the remaining Fox x-figures I was missing (Cable and Mystique) for $10 apiece

  18. smart move and shows why they don't announce all the tiers from the get-go, it allows them to make some adjustments if the campaign isn't going well.

I'm sure there will be many complaints about how Goblin Queen's should've just been a fan channel exclusive.

also i'm sure some x-fans will be up in arms about potentially having to shell out for this haslab to get this character.

Anyhow i think this is wise on hasbro's part.  granted they ditched civvie Robbie so that might have allowed them to adjust the tiers, but it does leave open the possibility that Mephisto is actually final tier with a potential third tier at 11K rather than at 15K or whatever.

Overall i still think this not a product most ML fans are going to go for, but i hope for the Robbie fans backing this that it succeeds.

I am very much against the trend I'm seeing where people are trying to convince others not to back by  claiming that if this haslab funds, hasbro will raise the prices across the board.  I do not care for the insinuation that this haslab's backers would be to blame for a future price increase.

Hasbro is gonna do what hasbro's gonna do, and i'm pretty sure any decisions about hiking prices will be much more heavily influenced by how well $25 figures sell, moreso than this Haslab. And yet i don't see these same folks  suggesting boycotting MLs in general or that those buying figures should stop so that hasbro doesn't get any ideas about charging more.

I hope the Legends collecting community sees the opportunity in front of them to take back buying power.  When you unite behind a common cause, you can do wonders- Never forget that.  Hold the line, stay strong, and you can make Hasbro do anything.

Yes, the collecting community can definitely choose to not back the Haslab. I'm not exactly sure how that's making hasbro "do anything".  I feel like the takeaway from this will be not to bother with larger 1:12 vehicles, especially with the rider line now more or less defunct (rumoured skycycle not withstanding).
