  1. Yes this will certainly be a problem going forward.  Personally i would be pretty hesitant to buy any figures with plastic-free packaging in-store unless i know the store JUST got them in (e.g. ,there is most of a wave/case on the pegs), and even then i think i'd want to open it in the store right after purchasing so i can return it instantly if necessary.

Of course there is also concern somehow could just grab one of those tiny tissue wraps/envelopes with accessories like waldoes, extra hands, etc. There is also the possiblity of accidentally throwing out some accessories if you are not careful when going thru the package.

My hope is that Hasbro reverses course with plastic-free packaging when it comes to $25+ action figures.  of course i would also like them to reverse course when it comes to charging $25 in the first place.  I guess time will tell what impacts these changes have on sales.  We can complain all we want but if people still buy them, won't matter.

Not a huge fan of Sentry. Not quite sure why he was necessary, I think we were all quite happy with Hyperion as Marvel's version of Superman. But I suppose if he's gonna be a thing I'm happy to have the updated figure. Other than the entirety of the ridiculousness of the Hyperion mold I really had no problem with the last Sentry figure, but this one is much better. Size wise it actually hangs pretty well with the Hyperion mold, but it's clearly much better. Out the gate I'm pretty sure Dan or one of the guys said it was on the Reaper mold, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe the legs are but the torso is a little beefier without having that Leifeldishly grotesque chest like the Hyperion buck had. Cool head sculpts, accurate colors, nice new or retooled body mold, an overall improvement. I like it and it looks to be worth a buy.

Now the Rumors are that Hyperion will be in the next season of Loki and Henry Cavill may be taking up the role. While I had my fingers crossed he would actually be cast as Captain Britain, this would also be a brilliant move by Disney/Marvel. If this is true I would hope we could get an updated figure of the comic version of him before the inevitable takeover of the MCU/Disney+ version.

The concept of Sentry as "no matter how powerful you are, depression can effectively render you powerless" is interesting in theory, but in practice makes for boring comics since you either get A) artwork where he is mostly just stting around in his room while others try and cheer him up/persuade him to act  or B) he does go into action and being so overpowered, quickly neutralizes whatever the threat is, making the rest of the heroes unnecessary.  Superman works better in the DC universe where the heroes overall tend to be more powerful.  Superman type characters tend to work better as villains in Marvel.  all imo of course.

a new hyperion figure would be cool, especially if it is (ironically) on a new buck rather than the hyperion buck lol. But time for some other members of the Squadron Supreme, feels like Doc Spectrum would be easy and visually interesting enough.  Whizzer  has more 616 ties. Of course i say all this having never bought the Nighthawk figure they made.

off topic but speaking of Doc Spectrum makes me want a 3-D Man figure as well, from Hulk 251. make him part of some red-green holiday themed set if you must hasbro, but get it done!

  3. at least he's got some decent accessories, but yeah given the lack of special packaging, why the price increase?

I do think this could've been more of a collectors item had they gone with something like the recent 20th anniv figures in terms of packaging, with the AF 15 cover in the background.  As it is, can't see any reason to want this MIB for display. Missed opportunity, i think. should've made an exception to the plastic-free packaging for this one, as they say they plan to for retro releases in the future.

i'm not a fan of the black coloring, but give me the same figure with blue coloring and i might buy it.  otherwise minus any cool packaging , i think this one is a pass for me.

  4. Yeah if i  was more of an iron man fan, i would definitely pick up that Titanium Man (ironically, i mostly know the character from his appearance in Walt Simonson's Thor run).  Only a few bucks more than a standard ML figure but BAF sized with some decent accessories.  Plus given that TM is huge the different scale of MS doesn't really matter in this case imo.  I certainly wouldn't wait around for hasbro to make one.

I assume the reviewer did more posing in the actual review video? because hard to get much sense of his articulation from the still photos (altho they are still useful as height comparisons, of course)

on a different note, i do find myself tempted by some of the diamond select muppet sets re-releases.  I have the Statler & Waldorf one, but the others are pretty cool looking too.

I doubt Dragon Man will be done given he's 15'3" unless they do something like Surtur. I could see Alex and Maybe Julie being done, which would also start Power Pack

I don't think hasbro really cares enough about scale for that to matter - i could definitely see them making a Dragon Man BAF.  How popular that would be, i don't know. I am definitely down with more FF waves but the last one didn't do very well at retail.

I do think tackling more costumes/characters from Hickman's run is in the works.  personally would really like annihilus at some point

  6. I don't get why Ultimate spiderman is packed with a bunch of 616 villains?  But anyhow seems like this is a theme with amazon now, i guess we can start making predictions for next year as to what A-lister will be paired with a bunch of repainted villains. Cap? Iron Man? Deadpool?   But for now the set is an easy pass for me, if it was heavily discounted i might buy for the new characters... but none of them are really very essential for my collection, so if i miss out no biggie.

As for why comic character X hasn't gotten a figure  yet while many What if characters have, read the writing on the wall.  Retailers like toys that tie in to cartoons, tv shows, movies... not comics from 40 years ago, much as we might like otherwise.  Similarly Disney is interested in pushing these shows much more than the floppies, which seem to continue to be published  just so the studios can hoover up ideas from them.  I expect the WM and Target toy aisles to be dominated by MLs tied in to movies and tv shows, with comics figures increasingly relegated to being exclusives, deluxe priced (see the black series) or part of multi-figure sets, especially "classic" comics characters.   iow prepare to either pay more or hunt harder when it comes to comic characters missing from your collection, probably both. Sorry but as a fellow collector mostly focused on comics characters 60s-80s, that is how i see it.

  7. i haven't given up on the characters so I'm not opposed to a sequel.  But i'm not so sure about having the same director come back, would rather see them give someone else the opportunity.

I also remain concerned that its still kind of a big cast, marvel really needs to make us like  these characters more and having so many of them makes it trickier.

in the 1st film the "lead", Sersi, just came across as so bland that i begin to think Gemma Chan casting was a mistake.. so i hope in the sequel either Sersi gets a personality overhaul or that her character just gets less focus.

    all imo of course

  8. anyhow symbiotes aren't my bag but that said it is a nice 3-pack and should sell well.  $78 isn't bad considering standard prices are $25 now and you're getting both a BAF sized figure and another pretty big one.  And while many folks already have a venom figure, this one is certainly an upgrade over the Monster Venom wave version that had that weird oversized, cartoony Brock head.  Altho that figure works well enough as Pork Grind for me.

  9. all i know is that phase 4 was mostly underwhelming (altho i 'll admit haven't seen Thor yet and of course haven't seen BP 2) with Shang-Chi being the highlight for me, and even that one suffered from an overly stuffed 3rd act.  The D+ shows have all had their moments but i think these series just underscore some of the weaknesses of the mcu, such as introducing interesting issues only to give them a very shallow treatment,  detouring from the main narrative to hype up potential spin-off characters, and plot holes that "suspension of disbelief" allows you to paper over during a 2-3 hour movie but are harder to ignore when you have a week between episodes to think about it.

I think its best just to keep in mind that these shows are meant to be appealing to both adult fans and 9- year olds. they can and should try to improve of course but these shows are never gonna be prestige TV, despite some big name actors giving it their best shot

I am looking forward to the 2 Avengers movies as well as other offerings here and there, I'd like to say that I'm not burned out on mcu but feels like most of the projects sound OK rather than awesome. Still, mcu movies are generally among the movies i most look forward to seeing in a given year.

  10. for specific storylines would like to get

    • most of the villain squad from the Avengers Under Siege storyline
    •  Secret Wars villain roster (need Molecule Man, Titania & Volcana, and a new wrecking crew)
    •  4 serpent society members from the old Marvel Two -in - One Serpent Crown affair (I don't really care about the rest of the serpent squad)... note we also need Triton and Stingray from this story
    • GotG from the DnA run on the title, which mostly felt like one long storyline to me anyhow

That's off the top of my head, I'm sure I can think of more.

I don't really create permanent displays based around storylines but would certainly assemble some temporary ones to enjoy and take pics of.

I have been looking at that gun for ages and the only thing I can think of is Trapster.

    http://cmro.travis-starnes.com/images/characters/trapster.jpg

someone else said it is a ringer for the gun used by the Orb, who as a Ghost Rider villain would make sense as an upcoming figure.

Also if Orb is in the same wave as Razorback and Human Fly then maybe they are just doing a "villains with crazy heads" wave

  12. I feel like it really depends on the tiers. if they don't include Mephisto and Son of Satan, i suspect it will be the rancor redux - a lot of folks will lose enthusiasm (not to mention likely giving up on ever getting those characters).  Yeah there are hard core Ghost Rider fans for sure, but i dunno if there are enough that want to drop $300 or whatever on the character.

as for me, i'm fine with Johnny blaze and his bike.  nowadays Hasbro would probably charge $60 for the ultimate riders.  guess they gave up on ever doing Hawkeye with the hover bike

  13. wow, didn't realize phase 4 was wrapping up so soon. it is safe to say it was the weakest of the 4 phases?  haven't seen thor or BP yet but Shang-Chi was the only phase 4 movie i felt was really up to snuff (despite a somewhat overcrowded 3rd act).  The D+ series have been a very mixed bag as well... altho i am looking forward to She-Hulk.

While the bloom is off the rose a bit, so to speak, still a lot to look forward to, especially in phase 6.  i am looking forward to antman 3 and gotg3 as well as thunderbolts in phase 5.  Born again sounds good but 18 episodes is a lot. looking forward to marvels more having seen Monica and Kamala in D+.

    • Howard the Duck and Ant-man - very disappointed by Howard's lack of artic.  Ant-man doesn't do much for me. maybe pick up during a sale
    • Loki - the classic Loki is fun but not really necessary for my collection.  maybe pick up during a sale. no interest in the tesseract loki.  Kang looks cool but I'll pass until we see more of the character
    • Classic Black Panther - my favorite reveal. definitely will get
    • Hatut Zeraze - i dunno. wish they had made white tiger instead.
    • Sentry - never cared for the character, easy pass. mixed feelings - wish it had been a better "villain" but glad to skip Walgreens
    • Spider-Man characters - Skipping the symbiote characters.  Razorback and Human Fly are fun but awfully D-list, maybe pick up during sale
    • Terrax and Fallen - Have Terrax, don't need Fallen. depending on price it could be a nice set for those who want both characters
    • Amazing Friend - I still need an Iceman but don't need the other two. Wish this iceman had green eyes like the cartoon
    • Scorpion and Beast - I'd  be way more into this beast if he came with a smiling head, i don't think i really need the lab coat and beakers. Scorpion looks very cool but i'm used to the more classic look we got already so maybe pick up during a sale.

Overall not very exciting but then i have a big collection so there aren't that many characters i want, especially since i'm just not as into the D+ figures for the most part and even with the movies its pretty much case by case. My main focus is 60s-early 80s comic but some of the offerings are just a bit too obscure even for me when we're talking $25 a pop. But there are characters i would shell out that much for so its not like i'm calling it quits either.

  14. yeah i always liked the Byrne version of Watcher best, and the select version seems to lean in that direction.

i wonder if hasbro will tackle with a comic version or if that would become a problem now that there is the D+ version and we don't want to confuse the viewers.

An mcu watcher from GotG vol2 would be welcome as the BAF for the new wave imo. certainly more appealing than the Korg for love and thunder

  15. Yeah if BAFs are done away with and they just did deluxe releases i don't think we get figures for stiltman, grizzly, armadillo, sugar man, xemnu, or controller.    since the alternative to a BAF piece is what, maybe an extra pair of hands or something, i think its still probably beneficial overall.

I do feel getting a BAF piece represents additional value even if it just ends up in a storage bag, especially compared to retro packaging which i really don't have much use for.

any other comments i have would tie into price/cost so I'll stop here.
