I also wonder how much articulation Chamber's head will allow. The rest of the team will be pretty easy to deliver, at least Husk and Jubilee.

It looks like Chamber's head is attached to the psionic flames, but there's enough wiggle-room that the whole head/flames combo should have pretty good range of motion (considering, anyway). Hard to tell, because they didn't provide much in the way of range of poses, but that's how it looks.

Husk and Jubilee will be easy, sure (can't wait to see Jubilee's 90s heads re-used for the fourth time), but Skin? Penance? Mondo? It's actually a team full of very strange physiology. Synch would be easy enough, but would need his own set of male-equivalent costume parts. It would be cool if they attempted some sort of sync field for him, but seems doubtful.

The real get for them starting Gen X will be Emplate, though. Can't wait for that.

My money was on Ch'od as the BAF from the jump.

Wow, that Monet is just awful. The pin head aside, that face sculpt is hideous. Why did she get the shortest end of the stick here. Didn't enough people want this thing? Officially the worst of the bunch.

I gotta agree. Stoked as I am to see Gen X get started, and with two of the best picks, she's pretty awful. Maybe they'll do a modern take with a better head, and we can go back and revise the figure. Chamber, who's one of my top favourite characters, looks incredible at first blush, though. The trouble with that team is so many members have unique physiology, so it could take them a loooooong time to get going with them.

But the list includes a Target exclusive Black Widow and a Walmart exclusive Bucky Cap.

You don’t believe that Target and Walmart are only getting one exclusive each next year, though, right? Or that Walgreens and Amazon will get none? There are a lot of possibilities here. Among them, Rektangular added some speculation to the list, he consolidated info from a second source, he got some information wrong, etc. It’s true that the annual anniversary line seems always to feature exactly ten offerings, and two to three of them are usually exclusives, so it’s possible his list had eight, but then he got info about the two exclusives separately, or that he combined the eight-figure list with another rumour he had heard to make some educated guesses.

His track record over the last few years is sloppy as hell. He got lucky this year and got the annual distributor preorder dump before anyone else, but his record shows that he will discuss unvetted rumours just as readily as more reliable ones. The list is clearly based on good info, and I expect most (if not all) of it to be true, but that doesn’t mean it’s 100% based on that info, and it certainly doesn’t mean it’s 100% comprehensive. In years past, there have even been entire waves that didn’t appear on the distributor preorder list (like the Thor BAF wave), that ended up just popping up out of nowhere. His list already didn’t account for Ronan or the X-Men retro wave (the latter of which appeared on the previous year’s list, which would explain his not having it).

Rektangular's leaks for 2023 have been spot on so far, so I don't expect to see anything that wasn't on that list, at least during the first half of the year. He was right about the Moon Knight re-issue, the Avengers comic wave , the Stryfe 5-pack, Blob deluxe and the X-Men 3-packs all before they were announced. He hasn't had any misses yet. If that holds true then the things expected to be released during the first half of 2023 that we've haven't seen any indication of yet are the GOTG movie wave + Groot/Rocket deluxe, Into the Spiderverse movie wave + Cyborg Spider-Woman deluxe, gamerverse Spider-Man (Parker) fan channel figure, Outback Rogue fan channel figure, Franklin/Valeria 2-pack and the comic X-Men wave featuring Astonishing Cyclops and Emma (and Corsair, Kid Omega, Monet Chamber and Fang!), Ant-Man movie wave, Marvels movie wave and the next Disney+ wave with Kingpin, Agatha etc.  Now it's always possible that Hasbro tries to sneak something else in there that wasn't already leaked, but I'd expect it likely have to be during the second half of the year. The leaked Spider-Man comic wave, Hyperion/DrSpectrum 2pack or the X-Men '97 wave all could possibly hit earlier than the August/September projected dates too I guess. Regardless it's going to be an expensive year for me!

It’s likely that the list is missing retailer exclusives. For instance (and I may be misremembering), I don’t think Ronan was on the list. The list was more-or-less directly pulled from Hasbro’s preorder solicitations for wholesale distributors, so it wouldn’t have Walmart/Target/Amazon/Walgreens/GameStop exclusives, since those products aren’t offered to distributors.

  5. A bunch of X-teams are so close:

    • The original Mystique's Brotherhood is just missing Destiny, at this point.
    • The Outback X-Men need Psylocke, Storm, and Colossus (and Gateway… dooo it, Hasbro), assuming the Rogue rumour is accurate.
    • The all-new, all-different team just needs Banshee.
    • The Hellfire Club could really use Harry Leland, Tessa, and a proper Selene.
    • The New Mutants definitely need more love. The era the Dani Moonstar figure comes from needs a few more figures, but I’d love to see a more classic take too.

In terms of slightly more nitpicky requests:

    • Mutant Genesis X-Men needs a more era-accurate Colossus (and a Revanche would be nice).
    • I imagine Hasbro thinks they’re done with the core four from Cyclops’s renegade X-Men, but House of X Magneto ain’t quite it for that final spot.

I’m also excited to see them finally tackle Generation X (presumably), with the rumour that Chamber and M are coming next year.

  6. While my number #1 remains armoured Psylocke from the Outback era of X-Men, most of my other top wants (now that Spiral and Chamber are on the way) are relatively obscure. Here's my top 10 weirdos.

    Amelia Voght
Destiny (classic look, ideally with both young and old unmasked heads)
    Dust
Frenzy (Age of X aftermath outfit)
    Gauntlet
Hellion (telekinetic hands version, if they could work out a cool way to implement it)
    Phantazia
Pixie (in her typical training uniform)
    Senyaka (Acolytes)
    Tempo (preferably in all gold)

Had She-Hulk been about anyone other than She-Hulk it probably woulda been fine. They kept invoking John Byrne's name as clout and inspiration but nothing about this She-Hulk resembled Byrne's version. The showrunner even admitted that she had little to no experience with the source material and they were basically just brainstorming experiences from their own lives. In any other instance, or with a new or unestablished character that would have been fine, but as is usual with these new writers and directors they just pretty much told a story they liked or that they could relate to and slapped a She-Hulk label on it while doing nothing at all to respect the history and tradition of the IP itself.

Like I said, had it been a new character or a character with less history and development it probably would have been fine, but it was off the rails from the jump when they changed the way she became She-Hulk at all when there was absolutely no reason to. You can turn to a Hulk by simply gatting a drop of blood in your system by contact. That opens up a whole can of worms from that point on. What was the big deal about letting Bruce save her life? Is it really that hard a narrative to let be? That is the official story. I knew from that point which way the show was heading. Straight to Blaaaaahville and beyond.

I never read much She Hulk, so I can’t really refute any of that, but they did explain the blood thing in the show. Bruce said she received a lethal dose of gamma radiation from his blood, but because of a rare genetic marker they share, they were able to metabolize it differently, which is why they became hulks instead of just dying like most people would. If I had to guess, they didn’t want Bruce saving her life by intentionally making her a hulk because it would have fought his entire characterization in the MCU so far. He clearly didn’t think what happened to him left him with any sort of life worth living for at least a decade, so why would he knowingly (and without consent) bestow the same fate on anyone else? Again, I have no investment in She Hulk comics, but I don’t mind variations on origins that serve the story of the tighter, more concise continuity of the MCU. I know it’s a pretty openly feminist show, but I really don’t think the choice to change the origin had anything to do with not wanting to portray a man saving a woman. I mean, Bruce clearly thought he had effectively rescued her anyway, which they got to have fun with by making it a big mansplaining joke, so there’s no reason to think it would have gone all that much differently had they kept her origin intact.

  8. You guys didn’t like She Hulk? I’m with you on Moon Knight. It was pretty lackluster. Ms. Marvel had great character development, and I thought the scenes with her family were great, but the villains, her best friend, and the overall plot were pretty meh. She Hulk, on the other hand, was great from start to finish, with the sole exception of Mark Ruffalo, who seemed like he was having a hard time even talking, let alone portraying a genius.
