  1. Ok, I digress--I didn't realize that everyone here was an expert in economics, had a PhD in Business Marketing and also worked for Hasbro. Everyone obviously knows exactly what the costs of materials and manufacture are. And that Hasbro is just being greedy by not selling this for $100 and wanting to make a profit. Why do I get the feeling that everyone who dislikes the figure and project simply can't afford it? The project will fund even if it gets 150 backers/day from now until end of August. Which it's doing easily. As for the cost of plastic, if you think this is bad, consider how little goes into each of the standard figures. Or GI Joes/Transformers that cost even more than today's figures when you factor inflation. I think what they 'learned' from the Sentinel is how much of a demand for these things there actually is. So they took on a more ambitious project with loftier targets. Kudos to them. In short--if you don't want it, don't buy it. Or at least stop complaining about a product you have no intention of or simply can't purchase.
  2. Message: Don't ever buy anything made of plastic because it's a rip-off? What else is made of plastic that you consider worth more for whatever reason?
  3. Cut the price by 75% and it's sell more? You don't say? The same could be said about every product in the Universe. Brilliant.
  4. Yes. Because it would all but ensure that future Haslab products aren't funded. Or are at least not as popular. One of the main selling points of these characters (and the items they come with) is that they're exclusive to the purchase.
  5. Speculation: The designs have already been set for these add-ons, regardless of whether they come with Galactus. It was the same with the Sentinel add-ons. The molds may not yet exist but it's a lot of time and resources just to make the base model for a figure. So I suspect that, whatever is NOT included with Galactus will be released on its own. Just food for thought. And I don't want a Surfer with him, tbh...I have a Surfer, many people do, there are already several versions of him out there. But Nova? None. I'd be more incentivized by a figure that's exclusive to this purchase, not something I already have. Also, I'm sure we could debate Sentinel size all day. I was trying to illustrate that the one they gave us is an amazing piece of work, will be recognized for what it is and was a great purchase for those of us who went for it. This was something that was discussed quite a bit during that project. The more I look at this Galactus, the more impressive it is to me. If nothing else, people need to realize that it WILL increase in value quite a bit over the years. Even if you never unbox it, it's a good investment. And I'm all for helping to support the Haslab process in general. That Fantasticar, Quin Jet, etc. that people are asking for? When these projects fail, the likelihood of ever seeing those diminishes greatly.
  6. It's not for everyone. I suspect that many/most people can't afford this sort of thing. But us die-hard collectors simply can't pass this up. Once you're in with ML, you're in--I have over 150 individual figures now and things like Galactus and Sentinel will just be amazing next to my existing collection.
  7. Actually, they all look pretty enormous. Measuring a character in the foreground against one in the background ignores the 3D element of the image. All of the sentinels in those photos are at least 25-30' tall. You're just fixated on the Bryne sentinel. They DoFP sentinel they released is of similar scale and was discounted to $50 for quite a while before they finally started selling so I don't see a similar sized option magically going for $100+.
  8. I'm not about to call myself an expert on the evolution of Sentinels but the ones I all remember (from various media) has them pretty enormous, not twice as tall as your average human.
  9. In hindsight, I should have ordered 2 or maybe even 3 sentinels. At the going (asking) price, they're at around $1k on ebay. I'm sure $800 is more realistic but that's a 'free' Galactus, when you think about it. Even though I have concerns about this guy, I have a feeling he'll be even more rare and sought after in the long-run. I should always follow my gut instincts with this stuff. I bought one of the GI Joe Snake Eyes boxes--the $40 ones) and they're already three times that much. I just wanted a Snake Eyes and would gladly trade the thing for a bunch of the 'standard' Joes I can't muster up the cash for now. Silly me.
  10. The Sentinel was completely different--it'd already met it's backer goal before they really showed anything other than the 'standard' add-ons. They even admitted that some needed to be improvised because it succeeded so well (read: the second tentacle...they never expected it to hit the numbers it did). I think they expected the excitement over Galactus to be at least as much as it was with the sentinel. They under-estimate just how iconic the Sentinel is by comparison. That and they gave us both a bigger price tag and larger initial backer requirement. Honestly, this should have come auto with a herald. But they didn't *need* to give us three faceplates (which are all awesome) and could have just as easily made those a tier so... Anyway, we'll see what they do in a week or so. We should be over the 10k mark by then, still on track to fund, but they'll want to see a boost in orders if they continue to wane. But hey, if they'd done the stupid Fantasticar, we'd be hovering at 2k right now so...
  11. They're both in scale. Galactus should not be smaller/the same size as the Sentinel and, based on comic info that's been narrowed, they're both approx. the size they were most consistently featured. 16 inches is tiny for a Sentinel. The only time we saw them that scale was in Days of Future Past. Arguably the best X-Men film but will ultimately be forgotten when they reboot that franchise (yet again).
  12. Yeah, I think when people look at the overall value of what they got with the Sentinel compared to what they're getting with Galactus, there is hesitation. I understand why it's more expensive but why the higher initial funding requirement? Seems a little presumptuous. Those Sentinel unlockables really made a huge difference, especially when you consider each of them a $20 value...
  13. The problem is, even though a few people on here have said they wanted the Fantasticar, most people wouldn't buy the thing. Certainly not 14,000. It's just not as iconic as Galactus or the Sentinels.
  14. People doubting that this will be funded don't seem to understand it only needs 150 new backers/day until the cutoff (stay in school, kids, math is important!) It's not going to hit some crazy 25k milestone or anything. But it'll make it. As for the 'army builder' comments, comparing this to the Sentinel--100% true. Several of my HC collector buddies ordered 3+ of those things. It just doesn't make for a very good display to only have one. And you almost never say them roaming around individually. On another note--this is actually smaller than I thought it would be. It's big, yes. But seeing Surfer in his hand actually had the reverse of the intended effect. He's really about the same size as the Sentinel if you don't account for the Helmet adding another 4" to his height. 15. They're not adding any "builder" stuff to this. This is another instance of where common sense just ain't prevailing here. Like people thinking this was going to be the Jump Jet. Or people not picking up on the Kang being the next big MCU villain while watching Loki, despite well over a year of super obvious hints being dropped (including him actually being cast in a FF movie...).
  16. I'm starting to think this will be less successful than the Sentinel, watching the numbers very slowly increase. It'll make target for sure but I wouldn't expect it to break 20k. Don't get me wrong, I'm getting one and I think it's gorgeous. I just don't see it as iconic a figure as the Sentinel--people were crazy over that thing and it met target within just days. Maybe the better move would have been to price this $50 less and kept the faceplates as one of the 'tier' rewards. It would have made more sense really.
  17. You haven't been to ebay lately. Go check out previous Haslab prices there. It will help explain why people buy multiple.
  18. Exactly this. Unfortunately, most people aren't smart so they just make Hasbro out to be the bad guy instead of actually investigating why they're not shipping this thing to Cambodia or Yugoslavia or whatever. It's not as simple as just tossing it in a box and slapping a shipping label on it. I feel bad for how much crap Hasbro has to deal with because of this. And wish people would do a simple Google search before proclaiming themselves experts on e-commerce and import laws.
  19. This thing is brilliant. I thought I would stop myself after the Sentinel and the wife knows how much this thing costs but I just can't help it. As for the 'tiers' and potential herald inclusions, it's Hasbro; they're going to use models they've already created. So Silver Surfur is probably 99% likely here. That's not to say there won't be others, but common sense prevails (and less money on their part spent). Just like with the whole "Kang" thing in the Loki series, even though everyone kept suggesting these silly C-list villains. Or people thinking this reveal would be the stupid jet. Anyway, awesome figure, grats to all who are able to get one. Don't hate if you can't.
  20. It's Kang. His whole schtick is time travel and he was well-known in the comic world. It will not make any sense for them to bring in a B-lister or otherwise obscure villain, especially if the plan is to create a whole phase of movies around the confrontation. Not only that, he's potentially even bigger and badder than Thanos. Anyone who has read the comics knows how chaotic Kang "variants" are capable of creating cosmic mayhem. This story is literally built to prime everything about comic Kang. Anyway, feel free to speculate and entertain all of these conspiracies but MCU isn't exactly known for subtlety or plot twists. When the answer is 99% likely to be one thing, it probably is.
  21. Not gonna lie, the BAF looks SO much better. And not because of the 'lighting' issues or whatever. It's just a better representation of the character when he's at his purest, most impressive form. The effects are much better as well. I don't know why they didn't just re-release it as a deluxe. This is like...mini-Sandman.
  22. Wow, what a good likeness for Owen Wilson. That said, unless you watch this show, you're not going to recognize Mobius from the comic. And he'll be rather obscure as part of the MCU unless he makes follow-up appearances in other films. I'm a completionist, so I'll be getting him but I understand why many people won't. And, hey, let's not forget about Coulson. Totally plain and otherwise uninteresting figure that I would die to have for my collection without paying over $100. Coulson was just a likeable character and a fan-favorite accordingly, which is a niche that I think Wilson's Mobius will fill.
  23. Iron man sells. Spider Man sells. Deadpool sells. Which is why we see so many iterations of those heroes (and related characters) and so often. The molds rarely change and they always sell out through multiple runs. It's a shame, but it's also what helps pay to make the more obscure figures we get every once in a while.
