  1. Figured out how to give Wolverine the hair on his arms. I took my X-acto knife and just made small scores on his arms. Then I put black paint and then smeared it off leaving it in the scores. I also did my Mystique from her solo espionage series Mystique trying to get Wolverine's attention God. I need a better camera. My macro zoom feature sucks a$$.
  2. Thanks for the comments guys. I was actually concerned about how well the seams would turn up in the photo vs looking at it personally. I am quite pleased with how the picture turned out. I was debating on whether or not to do it on is head since it seems about 50/50 where he was presented with a seam on his mask. I opted not to considering the head and it might have made it look a little awkward since on the legs and torso it can blend in a little better and the legs/torso/arms of these characters can always have something or other that's not blended in and not look so weird. The only exception really is hair. I'd love to find a way to do some hair on his arms by flicking black paint, but I'm afraid that it'd splatter on the body as well. Even if I covered it, I'm sure it'd still wind up there, and it wouldn't look as thin as I'd like and wind up looking more like monster hairs. I'm debating this constantly and different ways to go about it. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Usually once I'm done, I'm done. But with a figure with so much potential to make him as awesome as possible, there's always little tweaks I could do to make him that much better. All in all though, I'm quite pleased with how he's turned out (so far).
  3. Here ya go guys. Astonishing Wolverine Version 2.1:
  4. Hey guys. Currently working on Astonishing Wolverine Version 2.1 (Version 1.0 is the XMOW one, while my custom is Version 2.0). Version 2.1 is 2.0 just with some additions. Working on making his shoulder pads smoother and a little more evident, gave him his seams on his torso and legs, and got some closed fists (one from a Black Spidey (right fist) and one from the Cyclops (left fist) I got in my second Dark Phoenix pack) and glued on some claws from a spare MU style Wolverine I had. Now he has claws with closed fists. Just as I was working on some this morning, I ran out of putty. Gonna run out later and get some more today. So hopefully before the week is up Version 2.1 will be done.
  5. Onyx, OMFG, that Caliban is awesome. Truly official production quality. Think I could get you to do a Beast custom for me in his Astonishing costume? Can't even begin to think of what to use as a base body for that one. Anyways, speaking of my Astonishing X-Men figs, I was thinking of thinning out the plastic putty I have and doing a thin strip of the seam line on my Astonishing Wolverine like in the comics. What do you guys think? Along his center and legs.
  6. How did you get the Ultron shoulder pads to stay on. I look at it and the shoulder pads are wider than the shoulder itself.
  7. Thanks. And I agree. I understand only minimally why they may think it wouldn't work, but if they could make it work for their 8" G.I. Joe Sigma 6 Spirit Iron-Knife, they could easily do it on the 3.75" scale. This really wasn't hard. Just make the string long enough to do what I did (pull back, but not look terribly slack when not in use). Actually found a Duke today. Have yet to crack him open. Gonna carve a groove for the scope and then grind and sharpen the top and bottom to give it a thinner "bladed" look. Then Hawkeye will have a sword/bow combo.
  8. Not really a custom, but more like a touch up on Hawkeye (mostly in prep for my upcoming Heroic Age Hawkeye once I get my spare Dark Hawkeye body). I added a bowstring to Hawkeye's bow, and a handguard/blade to his bow. I'm gonna add a scope when I pick up a POC Duke who comes w/ a flashlight, and then kinda sand down to an angle to make the bow look a little more lethal so it's usable as an offensive/defensive weapon beyond it's initial function. Here ya go guys. Hawkeye's aiming at ya: Side view for a better look: For the string, I took the weapon from the wave 2 POC Snake Eyes that's a handle w/ a string and the other end is a swinging mini-sickle (blanking on the name right now). Cut the string and burned to prevent fraying as needed so it won't be immensely slack, but slack enough to "pull back". For the blades, I used the claw weapon from ROC Storm Shadow. And I also noticed for anyone interested in trying this, the arrow has a notch in the back that's a perfect shape and match in size for the string. Makes me think that a string might have been possibly intended feature that was ultimately dropped.
  9. Recipe: Target Two-Pack Wolverine Secret Wars Wolverine XMOW Astonishing Wolverine Instructions: I used the Target Two Pack Wolverine for this reason only: painted around the tiger stripes in blue and then painted the tiger stripes yellow. Simple as that. Though if you're much more sure of your free form skills, it works with any Wolverine. For his head, I used the Secret Wars two-pack Wolverine since his Astonishing costume has slightly smaller horns than most of his other ones in the past (or his current ones). For the bands on his gloves and the back of his boots, as well as his shoulder pads (and I used this to fill in the holes left by the shoulder pads from the two-pack Wolverine if you go that route), I used plastic putty. For colors, I used the Acrylicos Vallejos model paints. Dark Prussian Blue and Regular Prussian Blue for the blue (DPB was too dark, RPB was too light). For the right shade of yellow, I used the Flat Yellow and Dark Flesh. Each had an about equal ratio. Maybe a drop or two more of the Yellow. Same mixture was used to achieve Cyclop's colors. For the belt buckle, I had a spare XMOW Astonishing Wolverine, and if you can bring yourself to do it, I chopped him up, stole the belt buckle, and sanded down the back of it and glued it on. Let dry and apply a coat of matte varnish/finish on it, and you're done after letting that dry. No real disassembly required. Just a head swap really. Serves fun for all :)
  10. What new torso cracking method. I'd love to know this. I've tried a few and none seem to come out right for me. I really like how your Cyclops and Emma Frost came out. You obviously put a lot of time and thought into them, and the head choice with Emma just came out great. Your paint apps are also well done- I know how hard it can be to make white and yellow look good, and you absolutely made them do just that. Thanks Guido. Currently working on Astonishing Cyclops version 2 using the Havok body like I said. Actually turning out just as nice. If you want, what I used was the Acrylicos Vallejo model paints, the Dark Flesh and Flat Yellow mixed to get this shade of yellow and it worked great. Same model paints, but the regular Prussian Blue and the Dark Prussian Blue mixed got me the blue I used for Cyke and Wolverine.
  11. Astonishing X-Men sans Beast: My three Custom Astonishing X-Men (Cyclops, Wolverine, Emma Frost): Cyclops: Recipe: Head/Torso/Hands/Feet-Comic Two-Pack Cyclops (used the Dark Phoenix one) Arms/Legs/Bands-Union Jack I've actually been contemplating using some else's arms and legs, if not possibly redoing it slightly because currently (and this is really more or less the fault of Hasbro's design team) Cyclops is pretty much the same height as Wolverine, and I was thinking possibly using an extra Havok body I have (used the head for my Angel custom). It's the Black Suit Spidey body, but it's a smidge taller than others so it'd give Wolverine a better scale sense amongst his teammates. But for now I'm content. Emma Frost: Recipe: Torso/Arms/Legs-Ms. Marvel Head-G.I. Joe ROC Cover Girl w/ Ms. Marvel hair Feet-G.I. Joe ROC Baroness Cape was custom made and the glues on, given extra room for posability. Next up: WHITE PHOENIX
  12. Thanks Brymstone. Yes. Just pulled the head out of boiling water and stuck it on the neck to mold it so that it'll fit...Gosh, that sounds kinda morbid... Oh well. Ran out and got white fabric for the cape/cloak and hopefully will have it finished before the weekend is over. Than I'll take pics of my Astonishing X-Men sans Beast who is just to hard to do from scratch for my skills. Would love to have an MU style of him though
  13. I found a new alternative. It's the ROC Cover Girl head. She's already a blond (just not great hair), so the face is all set. Minimal painting needed for that small detail. And she has a mildly stern look like Emma often does. Gonna use the Ms. Marvel hair. Now, just need to find the white cloth for the cloak.
  14. I need an opinion guys. I'm working on an Astonishing Emma Frost (this will complete the team minus Beast considering Kitty and Colossus were official products). So far my recipe includes a Ms. Marvel body, I'm gonna swap out the feet w/ an ROC Baroness, custom make the cape. My only problem is the head. I can use an ROC Baroness head, but the cheekbones look wonky. I have a spare Scarlett head (minus hair) and can give it Ms. Marvel hair or something. I'm just not sure. What do you guys think? I kinda wanna go the Scarlett Head/Ms. Marvel hair route, cause that will mean no painting really except Scarlett's eyebrows, but I did that route for my Psylocke custom. I'm not sure. Then again, my X-23 is just a straight up Ms. Marvel Repaint, head and all, w/ some Wolverine Claws glued onto the hands and feet.
  15. Thanks. I'm quite pleased w/ how it turned out. Since it debuted this has been my absolute Wolverine Costume. X-Force coming in a close second (I've been actually thinking of redoing his horns to be more like the X-Force comic than the short horns he was given). I have the plans in the works for my Astonishing MU style Cyclops. Just need an extra set of Daredevil style legs, and to get an extra Pile Driver and Hawkeye set (both will serve functions essential to customs I have planned. I hear ya! I'm looking forward to seeing how your Cyclops comes out. I'm totally mixed on the XOW one that I have. I've got it all planned. I just need to pick up (well, find first) the Cyclops/Dark Phoenix Pack (I'll have two extra Cyclops figs as well because I'll be getting three of those just to repaint Jean into both the green outfit and the White Phoenix outfit). I'll take the Cyclops torso and hands (need the fingers posed to fire his optic blast ). I'll however use Piledriver's arms because it'd be easier than trying to dremel Cyc's gloves and trying to make them flush. And for the legs, I just need an extra pair of Daredevil style legs. Then paint away. Now that I think about it, I might do one of those extra Cyc figs into his original outfit. Thanks Onyx. Yeah, the neck is not great, but it does have his merits, especially if you pose him kind of hunching over while walking. Give hims a great skulking look.
  16. Thanks. I'm quite pleased w/ how it turned out. Since it debuted this has been my absolute Wolverine Costume. 17. More stuff w/ Astonishing X-Men Wolverine With the X-Men (have plans for a new Astonishing style Cyclops using the Dark Phoenix/Cyc two pack Cyclops: Kitty Pryde is phasing. I stuck her between the couch and the table and it was a perfect fit, with Lockheed on her shoulder (tail behind her neck, under her hair). Used whatever I could to get Nightcrawler, Iceman and Angel kind of "above" the rest Fighting Daken:
  18. While I was on my vacation, I managed to do my Astonishing X-Men Wolverine custom. No carving or dremeling needed. Just a little plastic putty, super glue, and the appropriate colors, and presto: an MU style Astonishing X-Men Wolverine. As a base, I used the Target two pack Wolverine and put on the Secret Wars Wolverine head. Took off the shoulder pads, filled in the holes there, and molded the hardened part of his much shorter shoulder pads...if you can even call them that since they don't really cover his shoulders, molded on the "straps" on his gloves and the back of his boots, and as well as adding the raised toes and padded heel area of his boots as well. I kept the boots in their original because A:) didn't have my dremel with me; B:) felt it got the same kind of effect. May fix it up at a later date now that I'm home. The two pack Wolverine allowed me to paint around the tiger stripes on his costume in the blue, and then go over them in the yellow, thus saving me the hassle of having to try and do it free hand (I highly suggest this route, it produces a much more desirable effect). For his belt buckle, I had a spare XMOW Wolverine (the first one I had that my dog got) and I cut around his belt to get this piece, dremeled it before I left to thin it out, and then glued it on. Front, Side and Back views. Sorry for the lighting, my grandparents place isn't the best lighting option despite my camera's compensation abilities. Crouching:
  19. Sorry. I retook the pics and just edited the post.
  20. After about two weeks of sculpting, carving, drying, patience, painting and waiting for the mail... I proudly present: BETA RAY BILL Close up of his face. I've been contemplating adding a bit of black to outline his eyes and teeth. Alongside Thor:
  21. IDK about Carnage being too terribly difficult to find. Following the same logic as the Ben Spidey, Carnage to parents will look just like a different kind of Venom and they may not buy their kids another Venom.
  22. This I can answer. It's just a simple matter of pulling it off if it's not molded onto the head. You can try heating it up first, which might make it easier. That's how I did my Psylocke custom. Used a modern Ms. Marvel hair w/ a GI Joe ROC Scarlett head.
  23. Beta Ray Bill is not an easy custom to do by any means, I've been working on him. Got his main body, arms and head done. Working on his legs. Sanded down the wrapped look on Thor's lower legs and am currently letting some plastic putty dry to do his knee guards and his lower thigh guards as well. I love my Dremel :D I've used it before, but I have found it to be a practical lifesaver in this project, and I just ordered the Stormbreaker custom hammer.
  24. I've been thinking of using a similar formula for my Marvel Girl I have planned, just wasn't sure how well the Enchantress skirt would work. Thanks for providing me some confirmation. Nice job on her. And your cartoon Jean.
