    2008 Elections

Unwinnable? No war is unwinnable. We've always got more bombs and bullets than they have center masses to absorb them with. No, this one is just extremely challenging because of kiddy glove handling of the war and the frequent culture clashes that are involved with this whole mess. That's all I'll say about that. Just to clarify - I'm not against your point here, DP - just sayin' is all. ; ) Tom

That is in no way, shape or form the same. In the Middle East, dogs are considered vermin. Most of them are feral, and attack people regularly. These are not Lassie and Bethoven. These are Old yeller and Cujo at the latter stages of their lives. Iraqis kills them without a thought, and I'm sure the same goes for Afghanistanis. Killing a dog out there is no different from killing a mouse, or any other pest. We do it all the time... the only thing that sets it apart is that it's on video. What the artist in this story did was intentionally starved (for days) an otherwise normal dog to death, for vague (at best) reasons. It is a far cry from a quick puppy toss that almost certainly killed the thing on impact. I don't think you comprehend the distinctions between the two acts. Tom

I know I don't watch the news as regularly as others, but I know they didn't declare the war over this year. I'm active duty with the 101st Airborne, and if you know anything about the Army... well, there's no rest for a combat unit. @loll@ This is also the reason I'm not around so much the past two years. It's such a chore to have a personal life in the Army. 'Shoulda joined the Air Force. : / Tom

Jay, I don't believe I said Bush nor Clinton did good or bad jobs, I simply mentioned that neither of their political stations prior to becoming president were anything that would indicate they were destined for the office. Your example was that Clinton left office with the country in good condition... that's fine, as it's not a reflection of who he was when he entered office. he was no more experienced in running a nation than any other Governor. The concept of 'experience' being an absolute requirement to lead is faulty, because there is no way to guage experience... you may be completely inept but frequently voted into office because you control a majority of the voting populace or there is simply no one better than you available. And as for your comment on "we weren’t in a war that is virtually impossible to win" well, I admit you've got a point. I'm back here for the second time, and things are - if it's even possible - worse than when we left. The Iraqis are still grossly incomeptant, jobless and treacherous. But I regret nothing we can do, Republican or Democrat, can change that now. Tom The world and this country are far different than when Bill Clinton first took office. I’m not sure what they did to ruin your state but I know that when they left the oval office this country was in far better shape than it is today. The economy was fairly prosperous and and draining every resource this country has thanks to George Bush. My problem with Obama continues to be his experience. He claims he has better judgment over the other candidates because he says he spoke out against the war when he had no say or risk of political repercussions and claims he will put good experienced people around him to get advice from if he becomes President. Yet in recent months what have we seen? One of his top financial advisors telling the Canadians that his speaking out against Nafta was nothing but political rhetoric, another top official of his fired for calling Clinton a monster and then later saying in a interview with the BBC he has no real plan in place for getting out of Iraq and now his pastor for over 20 years who was a role model to him spewing words of hatred to incite black people against white people. If these are the experienced people he plans to have around him then god help us all.

    2008 Elections

Don't blame me, I'm voting for Kodos. Frankly, I feel McCain is a token gesture by the Republican party. Do I think they can win after eight years of shaky Republican guidance? No, and McCain is their way of putting somebody out there who we all know has no chance of winning. He's tried before... what... three, four times? Don't get me wrong. I'm not at all for the carpet-bagging Clinton to get into office (ruined my home state, she did!) and Obama... Well, if I were sixteen again I bet it'd be a pretty neat experiment to have a minority candidate (pun!) with little experience suddenly become our commander in chief. But, to be fair, Bush AND Bill Clinton had next to no 'experience' until they became Presidents themselves, so I think the accusations are unfair. Besides, when was the last time a president ruled us like a king? He's not the only one up there making choices. If I had to choose one, though? ...Is Optimus Prime running this year? : / Tom

I knew it! He loves me! @smilepunch@ Be safe in Iraq Tom. Oh no you don't. You're not getting me in the middle of a love triangle with Clam. And for the record, I never disliked you. Arguing with people only makes me grow fond of them for some twisted reason. : ) ... < : ( Tom

I'M IN IRAQ AGAIN, YOU INSENSITIVE JERK. @grumpy@ I miss all my beloved friends from this wonderful forum. Even the ones I didn't like, I miss dearly. I wish I could be on more, but the war effort needs me, gentlemen. Tom

    WHO DOES THAT!!

Oh man. I kind of do that, but not exactly. If someone says something that I agree with, I usually go "right." but in an almost questioning tone. Like: "So I was reading the newspaper, and I really think that politician is a very poor speaker." "Right?" It's a mix of "I agree with you" and "go on". It's a silly thing I try not to do often, but I typically catch myself doing it too late. Tom
