  1. I don’t know what it’s been like for you these past several weeks. For me, I have been stuck in my house with a COVID-19 pandemic shelter in place rule in place, leaving only for a supply run to the corner grocery or taking my dog for a walk. My access to new action figures (assuming any are available on local shelves) has been greatly restricted. I still have access to shopping online for my plastic fix at places like BBTS, but the recent events really have me thinking about what the future holds for action figures and how things might change long-term. Obviously, with many under the same type of shelter in place restrictions, I am sure several will turn to more online shopping, at least in the immediate future. With that in mind, WHAT IF a company like Hasbro started shaping how they release figures based more on the online delivery channels? In particular, I was looking at their recent Marvel Legends Hydra Soldier army builder figure. The single-packed figure with a few accessories shipped in a mailer-type box with some artwork on it and only cost $14.99. The packaging is what intrigues me the most about this figure. Not only does it meet the new non-plastic standards Hasbro is said to be implementing soon for all of its brands, the box also is simple and (I assume) cheaper than the regular Marvel Legends packaging. If most people move to buying their figures online, there is no longer a real need to have the figure visible in the package and the artwork makes it nice if you don’t want to open it. Now, I don’t see Hasbro as able to lower the price of their Marvel Legends figures across the board to $14.99. Keep in mind the Hydra figure had already been released multiple times, so Hasbro likely already earned the return on their investment in the sculpt. If this was a brand new figure, I doubt they would be able to sell it as cheaply, even with cheaper packaging. You hear over and over in the media that this is the new norm, and I don’t really know what that means for the long-term. I certainly don’t see people fully giving up shopping at physical stores. I do think there will be a significant shift to more online activity, including shopping, even after the immediate crisis subsides. So maybe shifting the focus on how one sells their products isn’t such a bad idea?

  10. During Toy Fair back in February, Hasbro revealed they were going to be offering the first Marvel Legends themed product this year for their Haslab crowdfunding service. While no specific details have been announced, all indications suggest that the item being done will be some type of X-Men Sentinel figure. Hasbro also said that full details would be revealed sometime before San Diego Comic Con in July. Since Toy Fair, a lot of things have changed in the world thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, causing a lot of uncertainty on many fronts. Assuming Hasbro is even able to still move forward with production on such a figure right now, the question remains should they? Could a crowdsourcing project for a figure that is likely going to be a fairly expensive be successful in a year like this? A year were disposable income is likely going to decrease for many, as lots of businesses are temporarily shutdown? At this point we don't even really know if San Diego Comic Con will happen or not this year, which would likely be the best chance for people to see the figure up close and personal before deciding if they wanted to plop money down for it or not. Obviously with everything going on in the world today, we realize this isn't a top priority question. Still we wanted to hear from you the Marvel Legends collector, do you want or think Hasbro should move forward with their Haslab Sentinel this year, or do you think it would be better to wait until next year when things are much more likely to be back to normal? Let us know in the COMMENTS SECTION.

  15. During Toy Fair it was officially announced that another classic Marvel villain was getting the Marvel Legends treatment with Hulk’s arch-nemesis The Leader. The Leader With that I thought it would be fun to create a list of 15 non-X-Men and Spider-Man based villains that would be cool to see made for Hasbro's Marvel Legends line. Of course I would love to hear your own thoughts about which villains you want to see made in the COMMENTS SECTION below. This list is done in alphabetic order. Attuma One of Namor’s arch-enemies but has been known to go toe-to-toe with the entire Avengers team. His Atlantean armor alone would make for a great looking figure. Diablo An evil alchemist and known enemy of the Fantastic Four, Diablo was originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and we think is long overdue for the Marvel Legends treatment. Ghost We’ve gotten a more modern version and a female MCU version, but I would really like to see a figure done based on his original look from the Iron Man comics. Graviton The Avengers version of Magneto, this villain while never really gaining the notoriety Magneto has I always liked, especially in the pages of West Coast Avengers. Instead of magnetism he controls gravity and even appeared in the Agents of SHIELD tv series. High Evolutionary Not always depicted as a villain, but this is a must have figure for me. He’s gone against the likes of the Fantastic Four, Avengers and even the X-Men in the X-Men Animated Series. I’ve always liked the design of his armor and his power levels are off the charts. Jigsaw One of Punisher’s arch-enemies, this one actually got a Marvel Legends figure made during the Toy Biz days. That one featured the character wearing a Punisher style uniform, but I would love to see a figure made in his classic yellow outfit and have the neck brace. Kang Admittedly I wasn’t sure if I should put this one on the list. Both Toy Biz and Hasbro have given us versions of Kang, but being he is such a heavyweight caliber bad guy, I really think Hasbro should give us a nice updated version. Killer Shrike This is one that could fall under the category of being a Spider-Man villain, but he has gone up against others and was even a member of the Masters of Evil. He's not a major villain but always thought he was pretty cool. Mister Hyde This is one of those big dudes I think would make a perfect fit for a Deluxe offering. He has gone up against the likes of Daredevil, Spider-Man, Hulk, Captain America and many others so he will fit in well with a variety of other Marvel Legends figures on your shelf. Orka Another villain for Sub-Mariner who is also know going up against the likes of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, She-Hulk, and the Defenders. This is another big character I think would make a great deluxe figure. Red Ghost Another classic Fantastic Four villain I would love to see made in figure form. If they could release him in a three pack with his super apes I think this would be a must have for many. Stilt Man Every time I do one of these Villain lists, Stilt Man always gets included. While not the most menacing villain in the Marvel Universe, I just think it would make a really cool action figure with his stilt like legs. Super Adaptoid This is another villain I personally would really love to see. He is a android that mimics the abilities of the heroes he fights. I would love to see a figure based on his classic look which mimics the abilities of the Avengers such as Captain America, Iron Man and Hawkeye. The Mandarin Toy Biz gave us a version back in the day but I think it’s high time Hasbro gave us a comic version of Iron Man’s arch-nemesis. Mandarin has had many different looks over the years but I prefer the green and yellow robe look myself. Wizard Another classic Fantastic Four villain which is hard to believe we have yet to get a Marvel Legends figure of. Hopefully with Hasbro doing more FF based figures recently, Wizard will soon be on the way.
  16. Hasbro's CEO Brian Goldner was on CNBC this morning and overall gave a pretty positive outlook for the future of the company despite growing concerns over Covid-19. He indicated production would be back at full capacity in China by the end of week and that sales for the company remained strong, in large part because demand was up for their gaming products as people hunker down at home. While production due to factory closures overseas had fallen behind a bit, he indicated that he felt they would soon be able to offset that and be back on track as things ramp back up. He also said their were no plans for any kind of layoffs in the foreseeable future.
  17. Walmart is leaking like a sieve today and with that we have confirmation that Leader is in fact on the way for the next Avengers themed wave of Marvel Legends. This wave should include video game versions of Captain America, Iron Man and Ms Marvel as well as Mach-1, Rage, Leader and Captain Mar-Vell. Also thanks to Walmart we now know the Build-A-Figure for the wave will be Abomination and the Build-A-Figure for the upcoming Age of Apocalypse wave will be Sugar Man. Thanks to t0ytime for the heads up. Better looks for both these waves should be available tomorrow.

  20. Hasbro announced at the New York Toy Fair last month, they would be launching a Marvel Legends based Haslab crowdfunding project sometime before San Diego Comic Con this year. While not officially confirming what the figure would be, they all but said it would be some type of X-Men Sentinel. For those not familiar, Sentinels are rather large mutant hunting robots that have been featured throughout the years in Marvel’s X-Men comic titles, movies, video games and cartoons. There have been many different versions of the Sentinel done throughout the years featuring different looks and designs. A typical Sentinel is said to stand about three stories tall. For those not familiar with Haslab, it’s their in-house version of Kickstarter. They launched the program two years ago, and started off by doing a crowd-funded Star Wars 3.75” scale Jabba’s Sail Barge which was 49.35” long. Last year they continued the program with a huge Cookie Monster stuffed animal and a large 27” tall Transformers Unicorn from the original Transformers animated movie. The Sail Barge required 5000 backers paying $499.99 each, and Unicron required 8,000 backers paying $574.99 each. The Cookie Monster failed to reach its funding goal and did not move forward, but the other two projects were seemingly successful and moved on to the production stage. The Sail Barge shipped out to people last year, and Unicorn should arrive at people’s front doors early next year. While Hasbro has yet to give any specifics for how this year’s Haslab project will work, they did make indications recently that some changes were being made to how they were going to do it this time. In a video conference call with members of the toy media this week, they suggested that they would be including some type of add-on incentive option(s). For a typical Kickstarter project, it’s not uncommon to offer different tiers at different price levels for being able to back a project. Basically the more you pay the more stuff you get. What exactly Hasbro plans to do in regards to this remains unknown. My personal theory is that they may opt to include an additional figure as an add-on to the Sentinel. We know they are doing a Nimrod figure this year. They have confirmed that Nimrod will NOT be a Build-A-Figure, but would not confirm it was a simple deluxe figure, or say how it was being released. Nimrod himself while more human sized, is a type of Sentinel. So it seems like there would be a logical connection releasing him with the Sentinel. Keep in mind, this is only my own personal theory. Hasbro at this time has yet to give any indication that Nimrod would see release through Haslab. So don’t panic just yet if your not liking that idea. As for the Sentinel itself, there are plenty of unknowns that we all patiently await answers too. The biggest three questions on my mind are, which Sentinel design will the figure be based on, how tall will it be and what will it cost? For the design I hope it’s based on Master Mold himself. He is essentially the leader of the Sentinels and in the comics even ends up merging with Nimrod at one point. Like with other Sentinels, his appearance has changed over the years but generally he tends to be bigger than regular Sentinel and has a unique looking head. They could even make the head detachable, similar to what Toy Biz did back in the day for their 5" line. He is sometime featured in a Sentinel creating like throne chair which could be another add on for the figure Hasbro could offer. See the one Wizkids did here. For the size, I think it should stand around 36” tall or 3’. This would make the figure scale well with both 6” Marvel Legends as well as the previous 12” Sentinel figures Hasbro and Toy Biz has done for the line. Iron Studios has done some Sentinel statues recently that are around 33” tall that I think look pretty good size wise. As for cost. That’s a tough one. I personally would not want to see it cost much more than $300, and then I would hope it would have some nice features like tentacles that can extend from the arms and electronic features like lights and sounds. I honestly don’t know if that is a realistic price from a manufacturing standpoint, but if it was more than that it would defiantly be harder for my wallet to justify the purchase. What are your thoughts. What do you want to see from Hasbro for a Haslab Marvel Legends Sentinel?

  22. Another Toy Fair has wrapped and with that we have a ton of new Marvel Legends figures on the way. As with every major show, we like to recap all the things we know are coming as well as a few we think we know are coming. We will start off with the basic waves of Marvel Legends figures we know are coming out later this year. First up is the Black Widow wave which has already started seeing a limited release. This one will include figures of Black Widow (Black Costume), Taskmaster, Yelena Belova and Red Guardian from the upcoming MCU movie. It will also contain comic book based figures of Crossbones, Winter Soldier, Spymaster and the Crimson Dynamo Build-A-Figure. If you haven’t already, you can still pre-order it from our sponsor BigBadToyStore.com. The next wave due out should be the Avengers video game one, which will include game based figures of Captain America, Ms. Marvel and Iron Man as well as the Abomination Build-A-Figure. The remaining figures are all comic book based, and they include Rage, Mach-1, Captain Mar-well and The Leader. You can pre-order these at our sponsor BigBadToyStore.com. This wave is slated with an April release. The X-Men: Age of Apocalypse wave should be up next, and be out by May. This wave will based on the classic Marvel 90’s storyline and include figures of Weapon X, Nate Grey (X-Man), Dark Beast, Morph, Sunfire, Wild Child, Jean Grey and the Sugar Man Build-A-Figure. This wave is also available for pre-order from our sponsor BigBadToyStore.com. The next basic wave we know for sure is coming this year from Hasbro is the X-Force wave. This one includes figures of Sunspot, Warpath, Deadpool (Blue X-Men Outfit), Black Tom Cassidy and Maverick. The Build-A-Figure for this wave will be Strong Guy. There are likely two more figures slated to be released for this wave. While not officially confirmed by Hasbro yet, it looks like those will be figures of Shiklah and another version of Deadpool. We think this wave will be out in the May time frame. There is also likely going to be a Venom themed wave out in October, but we don’t yet know what figures will be released in that. It’s possible the Venomized Mile Morales and Gwenom figures Hasbro announced could be part of this wave. A second Avengers video game wave should be coming. This has not yet been confirmed by Hasbro, and we don’t know for sure the figures slated for it. We also expect to see at least one Eternals movie based wave released, but again that is not confirmed by Hasbro, nor do we know any of the figures that will be slated for it. Hasbro has confirmed a new wave of Spider-Man figures that will be released this year, all to be packed on retro style 5” Toy Biz Spider-Man Animated Series like cardbacks. The figures they have confirmed for this wave so far include Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy with alternate Mary Jane head and a newly sculpted Spider-Man figure. Other figures rumored for this wave but not yet confirmed by Hasbro include Daredevil, Electro and Green Goblin. Only one new Deluxe Rider series figure set has been announced so far, and it features a new Punisher figures on an all black motorcycle. For single packed $30 Deluxe Marvel Legends figure you can expect the following. Red Hulk comic book based figure which is a Target Store exclusive and is hitting shelves now. Black Widow Movie Natasha Romanov in white outfit. This figure features a flight stand and a number of different accessories. Look for it to be released soon and is available for pre-order at our sponsor BigBadToyStore.com. A comic book based War Machine with alternate unmasked head, flight stand, two shoulder cannons, wrist cannon and a number of blast effects. A new Apocalypse figure from the Age of Apocalypse storyline featuring two headsculpts. Power Of X/House Of X Nimrod which will also come with a classic Nimrod head. Hasbro has said this one is not a Build-A-Figure, but would not confirm how it will be released. It’s BAF scale, so if not a Build-A-Figure, we assume that means it will be a Deluxe. That is at least how we are listing this one for now. For Fan Channel and store exclusive figures, which has become a major part of the line, this is what we know. First we have the new Stan Lee figure which has started to see a limited release already. I don’t know if technically this is a Fan Channel Exclusive, but since it’s not associated with a regular wave and it’s not a deluxe figure, that is where we are sticking it. Amazon exclusive Wolverine Movie Hugh Jackman Logan figure is available for pre-order on the Amazon website and slated with a September 1 release date. Gamestop exclusive Gamerverse Avengers game Outback Hulk which is currently only being offered in a bundle with the PS4 and X-Box versions of the game. HasbroPulse exclusive Hydra Soldier Army builder. Target exclusive Deadly Origins Black Widow in white outfit. This figure is up for pre-order on Target’s website and listed with a March 29 release date. Target exclusive Gamerverse Avengers Game Starboost Armor Iron Man which is available for pre-order on the Target website and slated with an August 1 release date. Target exclusive X-Men First Appearance Storm with two headsculpts and lightning effect pieces. It’s unclear if this will be released as a single or in some other way. Perhaps as some type of multi-figure release. Storm will feature a new seamless design where the pins on the knees and elbows will be hidden. Target exclusive Red Hulk was already mentioned above in the Deluxe section and is hitting shelves now. Walgreens exclusive Iron Man 2020 figure. This figure went up for pre-order on the Walgreens website, but is now listed as unavailable. Walmart exclusive Grey Suit Black Widow which had been up for pre-order on the Walmart website, but is currently listed as being out of stock. Walmart exclusive Venomized Captain America. Walmart exclusive Deadpool 2 Cable movie figure with teddy bear and arsenal. It will be a single carded Walmart exclusive. Domino will also be single carded, but not exclusive to Walmart. That then brings us to the next batch of figures. Ones they announced but didn’t really give us specific details on how or where they will be released. So we know we are getting a Deadpool movie 2-pack with Deadpool and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. We are also getting an X-Men movie 2-pack with Professor X and Magneto. The young versions of Charles and Magneto will feature alternate head sculpts based on their older counterparts. We assume these two packs will be available everywhere. We are getting a regular movie Hugh Jackman Wolverine with leather coat and movie Mystique that comes with an alternate transforming arm. No idea how these two are getting released. These are being released in a sub-type line deal and there is no BAF. We are getting a modern Legacy Rogue figure which also will feature the new seamless figure design. This could also be part of that unknown X-Men wave. We are getting an Old Man Hawkeye figure which will be the one male figure we know of featuring the seamless figure design and an Old Man Logan that will come with a baby Hulk. This will be released as some kind of 2-pack. Finally Hasbro teased that the Sentinel will be getting the Haslab treatment this year and details on that will be released before San Diego Comic Con in June. There are additional figures that are rumored to be coming that are likely true, but we will leave off this list until we can get better confirmations on them. Even still you can tell that it’s going to be another big year for Marvel Legends. Is your wallet ready????
  23. With Toy Fair only a few days away, Marvel Legends rumors continue to run wild. One that came across my desk recently, is word of a 6" scale Marvel Legends Punisher War Van. I have no real confirmation on this one, but it does sound interesting. If true, this would likely be a larger vehicle than what we have seen for the Deluxe Rider series Hasbro has been doing. Up until now, Hasbro has primarily stuck to different types of motorcycles for that line. Toy Biz did a Punsher Van for their original Marvel 5" line, which tends to fetch a pretty penny on the secondary market these days. In the 80's and 90's, a van was Frank Castle's preferred mode of transportation. Granted in the comics and even in the Spider-Man animated series it didn't feature a big Punisher logo on the side like the Toy Biz one does. If Hasbro ends up doing such a vehicle for the 6" Marvel Legends line, I assumes it will be a solid black color. I could maybe see them adding the pop-up machine gun on the top. If this rumor actually becomes a reality, I hope they stock up the back of the van with lots of usable weapons. If we could get a lot of nicely detailed weapons for Frank to use, that alone would probably make it worth getting. If this rumor turns out to be true, we will likely find out for sure on Saturday. That is when coverage of the Hasbro Toy Fair showroom will take place. Things should begin around 1:30pm ET.
  24. While the Beast is incredibly strong and astonishingly agile, he is also one of the world’s leading experts in biochemistry. When he is not fighting evil alongside the X-Men, he devotes his time to expanding the frontiers of human knowledge. A tribute to the history of Marvel Super Heroes, the Marvel Retro 6-inch Collection features core Marvel characters with retro packaging and design. Each figure includes multiple points of articulation, classic-inspired details, and character-specific accessories. Collectors and kids alike can expand their Marvel collection with 6-inch scale figures from the Marvel Retro Collection! This fan-channel exclusive is now available for pre-order at BigBadToyStore.com.
  25. If you missed out on securing your pre-order last month for the upcoming Marvel Legends 6" Walgreens exclusive Iron Man 2020 figure, it's available again on their website. They list the figure with a May 31 release date.
