Sources have informed Variety that "Crazy Rich Asians" star Gemma Chan is in talks to join Marvel's "The Eternals." Previously announced to the cast are Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek and Kumail Nanjiani. In "Captain Marvel," Chan portrayed Minn-Erva, but its unknown if she will play the same role again in "The Eternals" or if she would have a completely different role. Created by Jack Kirby in 1976, the comic book is set millions of years in the past, when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans to create super-powered individuals known as the Eternals, along with the villainous Deviants. The two groups battled each other throughout history. The Eternals also warred with Greek, Roman and Norse deities before leaving Earth to explore the stars. The Eternals is set to hit theaters November 6th, 2020.
Salma Hayek is the latest addition to the cast of The Eternals, joining Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani Richard Madden and South Korea's Dong-seok Ma (AKA Don Lee). Pre-production begun awhile ago with Chloé Zhao directing from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo that adapts Jack Kirby's comic book creations. The saga behind the comic begins millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically tinker with humans, creating the super-powered and near-immortal beings and a more monstrous off-shoot known as the Deviants. The two races moved behind the scenes throughout human history. Source: Empire via The Wrap
Marvel is prepping to begin shooting The Eternals this year with Angelina Jolie and THR is reporting that Kumail Nanjiani is in negotiations to star alongside. Nanjiani’s character details are being kept secret but Jolie is to be playing the character named Sersi, a more outgoing Eternal who has not been afraid to move amongst humankind. The project is being helmed by Chloe Zhao, based on the comic book series created by Jack Kirby in 1976. Author Neil Gaiman revised the series in the early 2000s which features the superpowered and near-immortal beings known as Eternals and a more monstrous offshoot known as the Deviants that were created by cosmic beings known as Celestials. Marvel had no comment.
