I loved the First Steps movie. The figures while a bit basic, are decent enough. I liked the retro aesthetic of their suits. But one of the ones that felt in need of some TLC was Ben Grimm. His plain plastic had all kind of sculpted detail begging to be emphasized. He just had this plain brown look that also seemed a bit too dark? I thought that maybe I could give him a wash and draw out some of the detail. Well my first attempt didn't go so hot. He ended up looking more "reddish brown" and I was all out of yellow paint. So I stopped at Michaels one day on the way home from work and found some Golden Yellow Ochre. Mixed a bit of it with a bit of army painter leather brown and I think I got pretty close to what I was aiming for. Something that bridged the comics and the film. I was pretty happy with the resulting color and detail. I selectively drybrushed the color over the raised areas leaving some dark. Pretty satisfied with how he turned out. And I did Silver Surfer as well which I will share later. My next project is to repaint that titan Hero Galactus I think.
