Black Cat. Some sculpting and head swaps.
LoneWolfSones replied to LoneWolfSones's topic in Marvelous Customs
Awesome! Thanks for the shoutout! -
Managed to order both. I had dreaded Target. Is there any chance they pop up again for folks who were unable to secure a preorder? I have to imagine Hasbro knows this will be desirable and will have enough stock to go around? I don't know, I think it was with the Adventure series? People who preordered Target exclusives got burned as figures were clearanced before they even hit store shelves. The map room, Indy, if I recall correctly, along with Club Obi Wan, Indy. I know they have been using double-jointed and pinless for a while. I feel like it's a matter where if they give you one thing that is an update, they stop short of going the full 9 yards because of licensing. When you compare Legends to Joe's, the difference is night and day. Look at that Budo figure. And I agree...swapping arms shouldn't be necessary. But kitbashing is something collector's have done for a while to make customs. It is an option at the end of the day. Not everyone is going to be willing to go to that extent and I recognize that. And I don't doubt they will either in part or whole reuse this figure. It will depend on what that one brings to the table if folks decide to pick it up. Same. I think some folks on Reddit saw it. But this is where I saw the change in time. There are a lot of classy people here. I did a search on target's site and it wouldn't appear, and if not for a link on Reddit I probably would have missed it. I tried searching too and was getting irritated. I went to reddit, saw the link. I was already signed in and had payment setup. Same issue with Amazon where searching rarely works. I hate retailer exclusives :(.

I think the single jointed elbow will probably be fine. Maybe they didn't want to break up the sculpt as much? Double jointed would be preferable but it looks like he will have enough range to pose him in good poses, especially with the waist. As mentioned above, someone could remove the deco if they wanted. Or I imagine someone could do an arm swap? Maybe the 97 Wolverine arms with this one? I have the love triangle Wolverine and like that one. But this looks like an improvement in most other areas. I think someone could probably use the Extreme head for an unmasked comic head? I think these two packs in general are at least packs that have characters people would mostly want. As opposed to buying a 2 pack and getting a figure you may not care about. I know a lot of people bought that Punisher 2 pack for Punisher but don't really care about Bushwhacker. I feel if they are going to do a 2 pack? At least offer two figures people genuinely would want. Thanos and Psylocke I have seen some mixed reactions. A lot of people want Psylocke but are somewhat iffy on Thanos? But for me? I do not have a comic Thanos. I also would love to have a psylocke for my X-men team. So that's a 2-pack that speaks to me. Same with Cap and Blue Venom. I do have the secret wars cap. But the addition of Butterfly joints and the shield effect work for me. But I don't have a black comic venom. I also like the blue venom so again that's a pack I would like.

Secret Wars Cap is great. Technically Commander Rogers was the first Comic Cap I picked up cheap at Ollies for $10. But Secret Wars is the first 'classic' looking Cap I picked up and love everything about it except for the broken shield. I get it was a story thing. But I had to pick up an Ultimate Cap for the shield. And now I have to swap back and forth between them. I'll definitely pick up this cap though. Also not going to lie? The Cap and Venom just give me PS1 game vibes...Not my picture...but I love that someone did this! And the Venom? "Are we gonna surf the web!?"

I had done a few customs a while back. I figured I'd share them here, as they may give folks some ideas. We haven't really had a definitive Black Cat figure. I did a few different versions trying different heads. So first up, I had picked up a retro Black Cat Loose. Just the body. I wasn't really satisfied with her neckline just being painted. I didn't have any modeling tape to mask it. So I just used masking tape to form a rough shape. My idea was to drop the neckline a bit. Once I did that I added a subtle bit of shading there. I painted a warbird head's hair white and added a bit of a gray wash using Army Painter Holy White speed paint. The black choker is from an Emma Frost. As you can see her head fits a bit loose but nothing sticky tac won't solve. I then set about sculpting some fur using green stuff. After that I painted it white and gave the fur bits the same wash I gave to her hair. I also ended up picking up a Skyline Sirens Black Cat. Original is on the left. I tried painting an outback Rogue head (I really liked the big hair). I tried sculpting a mask but it ended up being too big. The Warbird head fit ok on the Siren body maybe a tad small? Now that we have another Felicia? I tried the Gamerverse head on the Siren body. I did end up picking up a retro head, and that worked ok on the Siren body. The gamerverse Felicia head looks decent on the Siren body, but if you seat it all the way? She has no neck. With some sticky tac though you can fudge it and let the head sit a bit higher. Overall I think I like the Warbird head of the ones I swapped around. It adds a bit of dynamism to the figure. I might have liked the outback rough head if the mask wasn't so large. They had another at Ollies, maybe I will take another stab at that head.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion Coming to PC & Consoles
LoneWolfSones replied to toynewman's topic in Marvelous News's General Area
I'll check it out. I also hope we see an Ultimate Alliance 4. I would like the same robust roster, but with meaningful skill trees akin to Marvel Heroes or something. -
I am all in on the Fantastic Four with the exception of Silver Surfer. I would have to see if I like this interpretation of the character in the film first. The others I can fit in to a MCU or comic display pretty easily I think. The 2 packs I am mostly positive on. Wolverine & Silver SamuraI? Check. Single elbow is a bummer, but he has enough new that I think I can justify it as an upgrade over love triangle. Cap & Venom? Double Check. The blue venom looks great and Cap finally has butterfly joints? What year is it? Thanos and Psylocke? Definitely. I do not have a comic thanos and Psylocke would fit in my growing 97 X-men collection (not the show as mine are retro card). Warmachine and Omega Red. Probably a pass. Shuma Gorath: Maybe. Have no idea where i'd even put it as he looks gigantic. But he would almost be necessary for a MvC Display and I guess you could pose him to take less space. Juggernaut: I do not yet own a Juggs. A likely pickup. All I can say is I hate retailer exclusives. I have a feeling Thanos and Psylocke will be hard to find.

If it weren't for completing the No Way Home line (Still don't have MJ, though I am not all that interested in her), I probably would have passed. I always kind of detested the design of Lizard in TASM. I had hoped they would update him for No Way Home like they did with Electro. But nope. They still went with the Mario 93 Goomba looking design. I plan to give him a white lab coat, purple pants, and a different head to make him a bit of a hybrid between movie and comic. Kind of like the concept art for No Way Home that I attached. They could have at least given us a bendy wire tail...Otto had four bendy wire tentacles but we can't get a bendy tail with a reuse of a 13 year old body?

I like the detail and the raised emblem being painted makes for a nice sculpt. They gave up a bit of posing ability in favor of aesthetic. Alongside Black Cat and Venom? He was really the only figure in the wave I cared about. The Kingpin I can see fitting in a comic display. Even if he isn't game-accurate.

This Felicia figure is one of the figures that I was most excited for in this wave of figures. The blue anti-venom suit didn't do anything for me. I guess I am a bit of a purist/traditionalist. I didn't really use the different color suit options in the game. Heck, I spent most of the time as Peter playing with either the Raimi suit of the Spider-Armor Mark 1. And I wasn't much of a fan of many of Miles' suits either. I largely stuck with his standard advanced suit because it was a great update to the classic suit. I tend to like simpler suits/designs. So when I saw Felicia was getting a figure I was on board. I feel like her sculpt is solid. The white bits aren't just painted on an otherwise flat figure. There's some good sculpt work there. Some have criticized that they 'toned' her down. No, she isn't as endowed as that old Ultimate Goblin Skyline Siren Cat. She is still a decent rendition of the character. The only drawback is like Symbiote Spidey she has no butterfly joints, but she can still get decent poses. If only the retro Cat figures could pose as well. I agree. They did Mr. Negative and a Demon. The Gamerverse Venom. But that Kingpin doesn't look like the game version. I could see him fitting in with comic figures though. (Which I could say of a number of the gamerverse Spidey figures). But they could do a Kraven, Gamerverse Otto, etc. And most of those would probably fit in with an MCU display or otherwise. The face looks ok to me, but I do think the goggles are kind of magnifying her eyes slightly. I've seen shots where people removed them, and I could see it as a good base head for customs.
